Try these fixes:
---------------------------------
If there is a button located around your touchpad that enables and disables the touchpad. Click it and then try again.

--------------------------------- OR
Unplug it and take the battery out then push the power button (it won't start up of course). Now put the battery back in and turn your laptop back on & hopefully that does the trick.

--------------------------------- OR
For a more advanced isolation:
It can be that someone knocked the touchpad's connector loose, which means taking your laptop apart to push it back into its socket.

I'm not exactly sure where the touchpad plugs into the motherboard, but I assume that it's on the keyboard's side of the motherboard, meaning you couldn't simply remove the back plate.

Touchpad not active

Press the "Fn" and "F9" keys simultaneously.
Test your touchpad. If it works, it was simply disabled. Press the same key combination any time you want to toggle your touchpad on or off.
Plug an external mouse into a USB port on your laptopicon1.png if the key combination didn't work. Follow onscreen prompts to install the mouse driver--if necessary. You can also move the cursor using the "Tab" key and the arrow keys, as well as click by pressing "Enter" until the mouse is operational.
Click the link in the Resources section if you are using a Toshibaicon1.png Satellite with Windows Vista. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and re-install the driver.
Open a web browser and navigate to Synaptics.com if you have a different Toshiba model or operating system. Synaptics brand touchpads are used in all Toshiba laptops, and this site provides a generic driver.Hover your mouse over "Support" on the top menu, then select "Drivers" from the drop-down menu.
Select your operating system from the list provided and download the generic driver
Follow the onscreen prompts to install your new driver, and then test the touchpad again. If it still does not work, take your laptop to a licensed repair technician.

When I try to plug in an external Mouse my Acer Aspire One is asking me to download hidusb.sys from the XP Home Edtion Service Pack 3 CD?

I'll assume your touchpad and built-in mouse are not working, hence your need for the USB mouse. If the touch pad and built-in mouse are working but you find them awkward to use (another reason some users connect USB mice to notebooks), then you might find it easier to briefly persevere and use the touchpad and built-in mouse for only a few seconds just to complete the simple steps outlined below. If not, the keyboard method detailed below is less efficient and more cumbersome but equally effective.
This driver that is being requested is already built-in to Windows. Use the TAB and down or up arrows keys on your keyboard to move the cursor to the button you want to activate -> press the ENTER key to activate the button that the cursor has settled on keys on your Click Next -> No (to alternative search methods) -> search the whole computer for the driver -> next -> finish -> if your USB mouse does not work straight away, press the windows logo key bottom left of your keyboard -> the use the keyboard arrow keys to move once up and then left to the shutdown button -> press ENTER -> use the arrow keys to move the cursor to RESTART -> press ENTER.

Laptop starts up but my cursor does not move

Hi, Maybe you deactivated it by mistake some laptop models have a button to activate and deactivate the mouse(touchpad) make sure yours is activated, if the problem is not that, then try re installing the touchpad drivers. You can find the drivers in the manufacturer home page. Take some time to rate me.

Automatically cursor jumps . When we type in the cursor automatically moves fromm one place to another

Hi,
I presume you have a touchpad under your keyboard.
Usually the hand position when you type is such, that it's very easy to involuntarily lighlty touch the touchpad with the base of your thumb, usually the right one, when you move the hand over the touchpad, mostly in the up-left direction.
This causes the cursor to move to some other place, usually up and to the left, resulting in the next characters you type being put in that place :)
Try to keep your hands a little bit more above the touchpad when you type. Also, many touchpad drivers have settings for ignoring light touches/drags, try looking into these settings in your pointing device properties.
As an aid, I would recommend a soft gel wrist support, which automatically elevates your palms above the keyboard.

Cursor(pointer) cannot be moved by using touchpad but possibe wit

Hi,

This happens to me also. Check whether the touchpad is enabled (laptops do have an option of enabling / disabling the touchpad). Secondly, you can try reinstalling the touchpad driver. Uninstall and then re-install the driver. Re-boot the system. Try using the touchpad.

Hope this helps., if so, rate me.. thanks - billa
