Align print head manually

How do I align print head manually? Automatic print head alignment keeps failing....amber light flashes 11 times. Have removed print head and cleaned with dry cloth. Nozzle check produces all colors. Performed deep cleaning of all colors and still automatic print head alignment failed. Cannon find instruction in manual or quick start guide on how to align print head manually. Anyone know how?

You may have a bad printhead, it's just like a light bulb and burns out after much use. Also the cleaning assembly has 2 sections for cleaning, one for color and one for black, and if one pump quits you will need a new purge assembly, a job best done at a shop. I would try the printhead first, QY6-0061-000

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages,then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Automatic Print Head alignment failed
Possible causes are as follows:
6128_image_6.gif A4 or Letter-sized paper is not loaded on the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, then load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Automatic print head alignment cannot be performed using paper from the Cassette. For automatic print head alignment, always load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and then print out the nozzle check pattern to examine the print head condition.

For information on how to print a nozzle check pattern, see "Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern."

Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to clear the error and move the printer to a darker location.

Light kee flashing orange/green and says computer is busy when there is nothing in print queue

Set of 4 alternating orange and green flashes. No carriage movement when opening lid. All started with waste ink tank issue and then trying multiple 'fixes' from online

The 3eBK head stopped printing.


Try below some steps which might help you resolve the problem.

Print Head Cleaning / Head Refreshing If the printed Nozzle Check Pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head.
  1. Press the <Menu> button on the printers operation panel repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears in the LCD.
  2. Press the left [<] or right [>] arrow buttons to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] or [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.

    Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.
  3. Press the <OK> button.
  4. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshings if the pattern is not correct.
If this does not help, try removing the print head and then install it again. Once place, dont forget to aligh the head. Following are the steps:

Reseat Print Head Reseating the print head is seldomly needed to be done.
  1. Press the Open Button (1) to open the Paper Output Tray (2).

  2. Raise the Scanning Unit until it stops.
    1. Pull and hold the Scanning Unit Lever towards you, then raise the Scanning Unit.
    2. The Print Head Holder moves to the middle.

  3. Open the Inner Cover 1.

    CAUTION:

    a. Do not try to manually move or stop the Print Head Holder.

    b. Do not touch any metal parts.
  5. Press the ink tank's tab (1), then remove it from the slot (2).

    IMPORTANT:
    Handle ink tanks carefully to avoid staining clothing or the surrounding area.
  6. Lift up the lock lever and take out the print head.

  7. Again, place the print head back in position and press down the lock lever.

  8. Insert the ink tank into the empty slot on the print head. Press down gently on the ink tank until an audible click is heard. Make sure the ink tank is in the correct slot.

    IMPORTANT:

    a. Make sure that the ink tank is inserted in the slot that corresponds to the ink tank's color.

    b. If the ink tank is inserted in the wrong slot, perform two head refreshings.
  9. Close the Inner Cover 2.
  10. Close the Inner Cover 1.
  11. Pull the Scanning Unit Lever towards you to close the Scanning Unit.
  12. Align the print head position after the print head is installed. You can align the print head position either automatically or manually. When automatic alignment does not work well, align the print head position manually.
Automatically Aligning The Print Head Position:
  1. Load A4-or letter-size plain paper in the paper support tray. Auto alignment cannot be performed when the Feed Switch is set to [CASSETTE].
  2. Press <Menu> repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears.
  3. Press left or right arrow to select [AUTO HEAD ALIGN].
  4. Press <OK>. The print head position alignment pattern prints.
  5. Check the printed pattern. If the printed pattern matches the illustration, the print head position alignment is complete.
Manually Aligning The Print Head Position:
When automatic alignment does not work well, align the print head position manually.
  1. Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the paper support or cassette.
  2. Select the paper source with <Feed Switch> button.
  3. Press <Menu> repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears.
  4. Use left or right arrow to select [ALIGN PRINT HEAD].
  5. Press <OK>. A horizontal pattern is printed.
  6. Beginning from column A on the printout, enter checkmarks in the patterns that have the most solid image.

    (2): Good example (Most solid box)
  7. Press left or right arrow to select the pattern number that you checked in column A on the printout in step 6.

    (A): Column
    (0): Select pattern number with most solid image
  8. Press <OK>.
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to adjust columns B to L. When all the horizontal patterns are adjusted, you will be prompted to print a vertical pattern [PRINT VERT. PATTERN].
  10. Press left arrow. A vertical pattern is printed.
  11. Beginning from column M on the printout, enter checkmarks in the patterns that have the most solid image.

  12. Press left or right arrow to select the pattern number that you checked in column M on the printout in step 11.
  13. Press <OK>.
  14. Repeat steps 12 and 13 to adjust column N.

Printer attempts to print but no ink is on the paper Printer attempts to print but no ink is on the paper If the print quality is poor or no ink is appearing on the page, it may be because of the following problems:
  • The ink in the BJ tanks has run out.
  • The print head nozzles may be clogged.
  • The protective cap or tape may have been reattached to the BJ cartridge.
  • The BJ cartridge may need to be replaced.
  • You may be using the wrong side of the media.
To check the level of ink in the BJ tanks
Open the printer's front cover and visually check the level of the ink in all the BJ tanks. If a BJ tank is low or has run out of ink, replace it. Failure to do so may shorten the life of your BJ Cartridge
Check the status of the print heads by printing a Nozzle Check Pattern
The Nozzle Check Pattern confirms whether the inks are being correctly ejected from the print head nozzles and whether the print head is correctly aligned.
  1. On your printer, press and hold the Resume button until the printer light flashes two times.

  2. When you release the button, the Nozzle Check Pattern will be printed.

    You can also print the Nozzle Check Pattern by clicking on the Test Print button in the Maintenance tab of the printer properties dialog box.

  3. After the Nozzle Check Pattern is printed, check the results.

  4. Look at the Nozzle Check Pattern for each BJ cartridge. If any colors are missing or if any horizontal lines are broken or missing, perform the print head cleaning procedure.

  5. In the alignment head pattern, if the lines are not perfectly overlapped, align the print heads.
To perform the print head cleaning procedure
  1. On your printer, press and hold the Resume button until the printer light flashes one time.

  2. When you release the button, the print head will be cleaned.

    You can also clean the print head by clicking the left Print Head Cleaning button in the Maintenance tab of the printer properties dialog box.

  3. When the print head cleaning begins, the POWER light starts flashing. This will continue for about 30 seconds. Wait for the light to stop flashing before you resume normal operation.
  4. Perform the Nozzle Check Pattern test again.

  5. If the results are satisfactory, resume normal printing.

  6. If the results are not satisfactory, you may need to execute a print head deep cleaning.
To execute a print head deep cleaning
  1. Make sure paper is loaded in the sheet feeder and the printer is turned on.

  2. Display the printer properties dialog box and click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click the right Print Head Cleaning button.

  4. When the print head cleaning begins, the POWER light starts flashing. Wait for the light to stop flashing before you resume normal operation.

  5. Perform the Nozzle Check Pattern test again.
If the Nozzle Check Pattern is still unsatisfactory, you may need to execute a print head alignment.
To execute a print head alignment
  1. In Windows, display the Maintenance tab of the printer properties dialog box.

  2. Click the right Test Print button.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screens to perform an automatic print head alignment.

  4. A confirmation screen will ask you if you want to perform automatic print head alignment. Read the screen and click OK.

  5. Another screen warns you not to start any other operation until the alignment is complete. Again, click OK.

  6. The BJ Printer Status Monitor displays the Printer Status. The driver will align the print heads then will print an alignment pattern.

  7. Perform the Nozzle Check Pattern test again.
If the Nozzle Check Pattern is still unsatisfactory, you may need to replace the BJ cartridge.
To replace a BJ Tank in a BJ Cartridge
Leave the BJ cartridge in the printer when replacing a BJ tank. Make sure the printer's power is on. Make sure you insert the BJ tank in the correct slot.
  1. Open the front cover.

  2. The power light blinks while the cartridge holder is positioned to the center of the printer.

  3. Remove the empty BJ tank by pressing in on the release tab and then lifting the BJ tank up and out of its slot.

  4. Dispose of the tank properly, taking care to avoid spilling ink on your hands, floor, furniture, or clothing.

  5. Remove the new BJ tank from its package and pull the orange tape up and against the perforations to open the package film.

  6. Be careful not to remove the label from the tank. You will need it to match the tank to the correct slot in the BJ cartridge.

  7. Twist the orange protective cap to remove it.

  8. Do not attempt to reattach the protective cap; instead, discard it along with the protective tape.

  9. Insert the BJ tank by holding it at a slight angle, aligning it with the correct slot. Press down gently on the top of the tank until it locks into place.

  10. Lock the ink tank in place by pressing down on the circle mark on the top of the tank.

  11. Close the printer cover.

  12. The printer will automatically start cleaning the print heads. When the print heads are clean, the POWER light will stay on, indicating that the printer is ready for operation.

  13. Perform another test print to make sure the new ink tanks are performing correctly.
To remove the protective cap and tape from the BJ cartridge
  1. Open the printer's front cover.

  2. Unlock the BJ cartridge by raising the cartridge lock lever. Make sure you raise it all the way up.

  3. Remove the BJ cartridge by holding it by the circles on the left and right sides.

  4. Make sure that the orange protective cap has been removed.

  5. Make sure that the protective tape has also been removed.

  6. Replace the BJ cartridge and move the blue cartridge lock lever until it locks in place.
To check the media:
  • Make sure that you are printing to the correct side of the media that you are using.
  • Be sure to read any instructions that come with your Canon specialty paper. These instructions provide important information regarding how to achieve the highest print quality with these papers.
