Why is it blowing warm on and off on the driver side and blowing cool on the passenger side?

Here's is a little background and a couple of thoughts. Turning to the background, first. The heater/air conditioner system in your 02 uses the same set of ducts located in the instrument panel. In turn, those ducts are linked to what can be considered miniature version of the cooling system in the engine compartment (yes, this is a greatly simplified version). The whole system, in fact, is run off the main heater/ac system, however, it has a separate series of controls so that it can function properly.

When you dial a temperature, a signal is sent to the heater/cooling system telling the system to open a series of baffles, directing a flow of heated or cooled anti-freeze/coolant to the proper "radiator" behind the face of the instrument panel. In turn, the fan system activates a series of doors behind the instrument panel so that the flow of air is directed through the "radiator" and into the passenger compartment. This is essentially the heater/cooling system work.

Now, you say that the driver's side is hot, while the passenger side is cool. What has happened is that the flow of heated coolant that is supposed to heat the passenger side of the duct system is blocked. Since there is no heat to warm the air that is flowing past the fins of the "radiator," the flowing air remains cool to cold, depending on the weather and ambient temperature. The result is that one side of the car remains cool. And, since the other side of the "radiator" is normal and the air is heated, it is warmed.

That is the most likely explanation for this.

Another possibility is that the baffles themselves are stuck and the coolant that is supposed to be directed to the passenger side is not being directed their.

Either way, your technician has some work ahead.

I have a 2000 Mazda MPV that is getting a loud humming sound coming from the engine compartment when the brakes are applied. The pedal also is not as firm when this episode occurs. It also happens...

This sounds like a power brake motor problem. If it happened right after you got that work done I would take it back there and see what they have to say. I have heard of some of these symptoms coming from air in the brake lines. If it is the brake motor it might just be coincidence that it started happening after that work got done.

Ever heard of a transmission overheating enough to cause fire?

It is very unlikely that the transmission would over heat enough to cause a fire anywhere in the passenger compartment. If in fact there was a fire in the passenger quarter panel area there are two things that would be the cause. Either wiring behind the kick panel became shorted and caused the fire or the exhaust became extremely overheated and caused the fire.

Occaisionally engine turns over, but doesn't fire (start)during warm weather on my 2002 Mazda Tribue. A few times this has happened after making several short trips (stopping and starting the car within a...

In my opinion it is caused by having too little gas in the tank. You are not suppose to run it it with that little gas anyways because it is bad for your car since all the contaminants can be sucked into the injectors and cause all kinds of problem.

Air conditioner doesn't blow with much force

Refrigerant is not your problem!!!!!!!!

Your recycle door has broken off and fallen over the suction duct to your blower. You can verify this by removing the blower under the dash on the passenger side. Reach up into the duct and if there is a plastic door obstructing the duct, it has broken off. With a little manuvering you can remove the broken door through this hole and you will have air again, just no control of inside or outside air. Dodge has redesigned the housing for this recycle door which is supposed to stop this from happening. The redesigned housing and door come as a unit from Dodge for about $30.00 and this includes the electric actuator. This requires removing the Dash to change the housing so if your not ready for several hours work, take it to a mechanic.

97 Chevy Cavalier - blue smoke and new clicking sound

After you have had it out for a drive shut it off and wait a couple minutes then check your oil level. If it is low wait a couple hours and check it again. I'm not sure what engine you have but what I'm getting at here is I have seen this happen on V8 engines, which I know yours is not, but sometimes the oil return holes in the heads will get clogged with sludge and the oil stays up on top of the head
instead of draining back to the oil pan quick enough and it gets sucked down through the valve guides in to the cylinders and will cause the blue smoke. It would also cause your ticking if there is lack of oil in the pan to properly lubricate the engine. If this is what is happening your vibration could be caused from damage to your engine bearings.
Has your oil light ever came on while driving?
You could have some other problem but thought I would throw this out to you as a possibilty
