Unfortunately the "legal" way to do so requires contacting Acer so they can send you a restoration disc based on the SNID. Costs about $20 USD.
If the forgotten password is the Windows password and not a BIOS password, then just writing over the OS would work fine. If it's a BIOS password, on the other hand, it's more complicated.

You'll have to use your recovery disk to set it back to factory, unfortunately most recovery disks give you little or no options for which software is to be reinstalled. The only way to install windows without any of the extra software that your computer came with would be to take a standard windows installation disk and install through that. Afterwards you would have to manually install all the driver software.
Alternatively, you can install with your recovery disk and use the add/remove software feature in the control panel to remove any programs that you do not want, just be sure that you don't remove any software that is a driver for any hardware devices.
Hope this helps, get back to me if you need any more information.

Follow these instructions carefully:
To start the recovery process:
1. Restart the system.
2. While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3. Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
I copied the above from an Acer manual, and it works on my own system, which is not the same model as yours. But you must understand that this will basically restore your computer to the condition in which it was when you bought it, unpacked it from the box, and followed the instructions to set up a new computer.
This will give you your system back as if it were brandy new, but in most cases, anything you created, like DOCs, or XLS files, again … ANYthing you created since buying this computer, will also probably not be there any more.
You will have a pristine, clean as new, computer system.
Be careful, be absolutely sure this is what you want to do, and go ahead and do it.
