Dlink dwa 130 usb connection problems

By Dennis60 on Nov 24, 2007

" "
I bought a Dlink router and two usb adaptors today. The router is working fine and one of the usb adaptors works great. The other quit within 5 minutes of adding to my wife's computer. I took it back to Best Buy for an exchange and hooked it up again. Within 5 minutes it completely shut down again. My wife has an older Compaq (about 5 years old) and I must add that she is Korean so all her software is Korean and I cant read anything. With her interpreting I tried to reacquire the usb adaptor but it just does not work at all. I frankly do not know if she has XP SP2 loaded, and I have just read that SP2 is supposed to fix a problem with access.

Is there anything you can tell me that I need to do to fix this problem?

- Actually I have one computer hooked up to the wireless router via cable...and it is not a problem. The oldest son has an identical Dlink adaptor that is working great. We have cable net via Cox, so the speed is very good. The problem lies in my wifes computer. I did verify that SP2 is loaded, so I think there may be a conflict somewhere so I will take the advice above and clean out the USB drivers and see if that works. She has really gunked the pc up with lots of peripherals so it very well could be conflict.

Thanks for the help to all.

Dennis

First, you need to make sure that the system has SP2 installed.

right click on My Computer > Properties > General tab, and under System, it will tell you if it is installed. If not, then download from here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsxp/bb264768.aspx

Next, problems with USB devices are well known, and I might suggest this site to resolve the USB problem.. (Clean out Device Manager)..

Any other issues, please come back and let us know.

- Why is it necessary to install SP2? 6 minutes to hack an unsecured XP box...

A Microsoft executive calls the ease with which two British e-crime specialists managed to hack into a Windows XP computer as both "enlightening and frightening."

DENNIS.
IF I UNDERSTAND YOU CORRECTLY. YOU ARE TRYING TO CONNECT BOTH COMPUTERS TO THE ROUTER VIA USB ? IT WOULD BE EASIER YOU CONNECT ONE OF THE SYSTEM USING THE ETHERNET CABLE AND THE OTHER USB. THAT WAY YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO BUY A USB ADAPTORS. AND WHEN YOUR WIFE SYSTEM GETS ONLINE HAVE HER GO TO HP WEBSITE AND UPGRADE HER SYSTEM DRIVERS.
ANOTHER WAY YOU CAN DO THIS IS ONE OF YOU GO WIRELESS. THAT WILL HELP YOU WITH SOME MOBILITY WITH YOUR SYSTEM AND LESS CABLES. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR RESULTS ARE

THANK YOU
