Question about D-Link Computers & Internet

I need WEP key to set up HP printer wirelessly. When I found it, it's encrypted. How do I put it in HP setup - where do I find it?

I am the owner and administrator of the router. However, I did not set it up initially (my computer "guru" did when he installed it a couple of years ago), so I doubt if he remembers it. According to the dLINK support, I dial into the router and go to settings. I couldn't get into the router that way either. When I found the encrypted WEP key, it appeared to give me the option to change it. Can I just change it to anything and remember it, and it will be encrypted?

Okay, WEP key is a type of network encryption. The owner or administrator of the router should always know that so that they would not get any problem in connecting a wireless device.

If you are the owner of the router and you forgot the WEP key of your router, there's nothing that we could do BUT to RESET the ROUTER.

Then setup the router again. I would suggest for you to contact the tech support or the manufacturer of the router.

Once you have your network setup wired and wirelessly, keep the WEP key that you would setup.

Hi, The WEP key is stored on your wireless router (DLINK) configuration page. As per the records I can assume that you got your key and you are facing difficulty to use it on the HP device. Could you provide th model number of the HP product you have.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops, wireless printer and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops, wireless printer and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

How do we find the WEP key for my WGR614v9

Configuring WEP:
  1. Use an ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
  2. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
  3. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
  4. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar. n101675_image001.jpg
  5. Under Security Options, select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
  6. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Authentication Type, select Automatic.
  7. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, select 64-bit or 128-bit. NOTE: You will need to configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  8. From Security Encryption (WEP) Key, select Key 1 and enter a key.
    • Note: WEP keys are entered in hexadecimal digits, which are any combination of 0-9, A-F.
      • If you selected 64-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 10 hexadecimal digits for your key.
      • If you selected 128-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 26 hexadecimal digits for your key.
    • SAVE or KEEP NOTE of these values - they will be required to connect wirelessly to your network.
  9. Click Apply to save the settings.

Your printer is saying that you should secure your wireless internet. Try resetting the router by holding the reset button located on the back for at least 30 seconds.
