You will have to do security set up on your router again. It is reset so everything goes back to default. You should have the default user names and passphrases in your documentation. You should unplug the router if you're not using it as folks who want to hack your internet connection usually know the default phrases for all the router brands and can use your connection for nefarious purposes that may put you in legal peril as it will be your IP held responsible.

You will just have to do your security setup again & change the user and passphrases. Each computer will have to run through setup again for your network unless you use the same pre-shared key.
You will need to use a wired connection for setup with a ethernet cable even if you use a laptop to reinstall your security settings to your router.

Sometimes you need to restart a router by power cycling it which is not the same as resetting by pushing the pin in. Power cycling is just removing the power supply cord - keep it unplugged for a minute, then plug it back in- think of it as a restart. Resetting changes the router settings back to default- think of it as a clean reinstall of the router's operating system.

Cannot get belkin N750 to reset to fix the lost password

Make sure you hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds. This will do a factory reset for you, simply hitting the button will only restart your router. Once you're done resetting it, connect to your wireless network using information provided on the bottom of your router box and go to either http://192.168.2.1/ or http://router/ to configure it again.

Wireless Network Reset and Setup - Linksys

If you are unable to connect your laptop wireless to your Linksys wireless access point/router, the easiest and fastest way to get going is to reset your router to the factory defaults. This will make your router work like the day you bought it.

There are 2 steps involved Reset your router, Setup/Secure a new router

Reset your router:

  • Unplug your DSL/Cable modem from power (not your access point/router) Leave this unplugged for now

Next
  • On the rear of your Linksys router you will find a small RESET button
  • With the power still on the router, Press and hold (with a pin/pen tip) the RESET button for 30 seconds.
  • Release the RESET button a wait 15 seconds for the router to reboot

almost done....
  • Unplug your Linksys router from power
  • Plug your DSL/Cable modem back in to power
  • Wait 1 minute for the modem to boot up
  • Be sure the ethernet (cat5) cable from your modem is securely plugged into the WAN port on the back of your Linksys router. This is usually labeled WAN or Internet above the jack
  • Plug your Linksys router back into power.

You will now be able to connect to the internet with your wireless device. I would advise that you follow the next steps in securing your wireless network.

Setup/Secure a new router

Log into your router
  • Type 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and hit enter
  • In the login fields (case sensitive):
  • Username: leave_this_field_blank
  • Password: admin
  • Click OK

Once in the web interface for your router
  • Click Wireless tab - Basic Wireless Settings
  • Find the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field
  • change this to your new network name (this is the name you will see when you connect through your wireless device)
  • Find the Wireless Channel field
  • Change this from 6 (default) to 1 or 11

  • Click on Wireless Security
  • Find the Security Mode field
  • Choose WPA2 - Personal
  • WPA Algorithm choose AES
  • WPA Shared Key type in your new password you will use to connect to your network

Click Save Changes and your router will now reboot. You will now need to enter in that same password (WPA Shared Key) when you first connect with your laptop to your wireless network

Power light on the router is blinking rapidly, no internet connection

Hi, try resetting the router. On the back, there should be a spot where you can use a pen to press the reset button. This will reset the router to the factory settings. Once you have done this, do the following to set up the wireless network again:

1 In your "Start" menu, type "cmd" into the search or run field, and click ENTER. A black command box will appear.
2. In the command prompt, type "ip config" and hit ENTER. Your internet information will appear.
3. Write down the IP address for your default gateway that is shown, and type "exit" and hit ENTER. The command prompt will close.
4. Open your internet browser, and enter the default gateway IP into the address bar, and press ENTER. The setup for your router will come up.
5. Go through the screens to set up the wireless network again.

If resetting the router like this does not fix it, then it's a hardware of firmware issue and you may need to contact the manufacturer directly.

Regards,
D

Need to change my password on my belkin router

You could try resetting it and hitting the little button on the back of the router and installing the software all over again or you could try and look at the manuals to see if you can do it from the software it came with.

How to resolve Intermittent Wireless connection using Linksys routers....

If your problem is with the wireless connectivity on all your wireless computers, there is a possibility that you are experiencing interference. Any device working on a 2.4-GHz frequency would cause reception problems on your wireless adapters. You can help by checking the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:

1. 2.4 GHz interference: Your router may be operating on the same frequency as your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router's channel to 1 or 11 (the default is 6) and restart the wireless computers.

To change channel on your router follow the steps below:
a. Log on to the router's web utility (http://192.168.1.1 on your browser). Then put the router password admin and leave the username blank but if you change the router password then type that in.
b. On the wireless section, change the channels from 1 to 11. I suggest you to use channel 1, 6, 9 and 11. Hit Apply or Save Settings.

2. Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be loosing connectivity because of physical obstacles, including walls and floors. Try to physically move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.
3. Placement of the router: I suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. If placing in a high location, be sure to give leave a distance of 2-feet between the router antenna tips and the ceiling and wall. If your signal goes through multiple floors, try to place the router on the upper-most floor, and up high in the room that it will be placed in.
4. Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.

If you have enabled the WEP security on your router try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:

From the wireless computer you are having problem with, if you are using Windows xp make sure the IEEE for the authentication is not enabled. To check this go to Control panel>Network connections>Right click on Wireless network connections then hit the properties button. Click on Wireless networks tab and under the Preferred networks highlight the name of your wireless network then hit the properties button. Click on the Authentication tab and make sure that the Enable IEEE box is not check.

If you don't have WEP security enabled on the router and changing channels didn't help to fix the problem you may try to enable the wireless security on the router. To enable WEP on the router follow the steps below:

1. Open your default browser and enter the following IP address into the address bar: <http://192.168.1.1>
2. When prompted for a username and password type “admin” on password, unless you have previously changed the password of the router, and hit OK. This will bring you to the Setup page of the router.
3. Depending on the firmware of the router. Click on the WEP Key Settings button. Or you can click the Wireless tab and select Wireless Security. Or you can click the Security Tab and select Wireless.
4. From the WEP/Security Settings window, you may enable 64 or 128 bit WEP then enter your Password on the Passphrase field and click on Generate. Make sure to copy the characters on Key 1-4 on a piece of paper before you hit APPLY. You will need this once you enable WEP on the wireless PC’s. Also take note that if you enable 64 or 128 bit on the router, this should be the same WEP level that you will enable on the wireless cards.

If it still doesn't work try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of the wireless adapter. You may try to use the latest driver of the adapter that was available on our website. If you are using Windows xp you don't need to install the WLAN utility for the card, install only the driver.

If it still doesn’t work you try to hard reset the router. If you will reset the router it will turn to the factory default settings of the router and you need to reconfigure it.

To reset the router to factory default 1] Press and hold the reset button for 30 sec., after that 2] Unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 sec. 3] Then, plug back the power keep holding down the reset button for 30sec., after that 4] Release the reset button. 5] You need to reconfigure the router again and that should correct everything...

If this is a Helpful tip Thumbs Up is appreciated. Thank you

My WRT300N Linksys router shows all lights, I've hit the reset button onece, but I can not get online without plugging the cable directly into my computer.

Since you hit the reset button on the router, it will go back to default settings.

By default, the SSID is linksys and the wireless security is disabled.

So on the wireless network connections on your computer, you should see linksys and then just connect to it.

However, it is advisable to change the default SSID and to enable the wireless security.

Follow this link to change the SSID.
Follow this link to enable wireless security.

Good luck!

Lost my password i have netgeer N router

Remove power from the router. Press and hold the reset button while plugging it back in. After about 30-45 seconds, release the reset button. Now you should be able to log into the router's default IP address with the default admin password. This procedure WILL erase all of the configuration settings on the router. But that's the only way back in if you've lost the admin password.
