Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. It will not fill. It starts to fill and shuts of the water flow after about one minute or so and a code F 50 is displayed. When I put it on rinse/spin and start it will pump out but will not go into spin cycle. I was told to replace the RPS sensor. I replace it with a kit from the parts house which included a harness that was also replaced. Still getting the code F 50. The brain has been replaced once, the lid lock has been replaced twice, all under warranty. Now it is out of warranty, and I'm out 90.00 for a part that I was told by two experts would fix this machine. Please, I need right answers.

When I replaced the RPS sensor today and the harness, the harness had a new hose attached to it as well. There are no kinks or pressure spots in the hose. I did check this arlready.

Could the problem be in the control panel?

If the valve solenoid was bad then it would not open at all. Also if one side was bad the other would still continue to work. The machine does put water into the tub but only for a short time. Then stops and the code comes up. Even if I put it on a soak cycle. It will start to fill but stops in a minute or so, and shows code F 50.

When I put on spin cycle the timer shows 11 minutes and then jumps to 8 minutes, begins pump out and continues to pump out but never goes into the spin mode.

I can't guarantee anything, but I want you to try something. If it works, it won't cost you any more money. I want you to check the routing of the pressure switch hose. It travels through a conduit with the wire harness and is very cramped. Sometimes the conduit has to be split slightly to free up the hose and alleviate kinks. Sometimes it is like the constant pressure seems to get to the hose, weakening it, and causing it to collapse and be crushed. This has been known to cause this type problem on this type washer. What the hey, it's worth a try, right? I sure hope this helps you and best wishes.

The problem could be in the circuit board, and I don't like to make you wait, but I will need a little time to think this over. While I ponder this, and since you said that it starts filling and then stops, I would like for you to check the solenoids at the water inlet valve. I am attaching a picture and I would like for you to use a multimeter to check the solenoids for continuity. If either one has no continuity, it is bad and the inlet valve will have to be replaced. I will think this over and get back as soon as I possibly can. Hang in there.

The problem is the machine control board.

I did some research and heard that Whirlpool had trouble with the machine control boards in some machines. The control boards were manufactured in China and were causing the F50 code as well as the F68 code (this indicated a pressure problem). The machines would cut the water off right after starting. Sorry about that.

Our cabrio washer (whirlpool) is not filling with enough water

You should have a LF code if so, then the water valve is your problem.

Lf code comes on twice during clean cycle and I have to press start button to get it working again

Ok this error means Long fill as you know, Basically if the machine has not filled after 10 minutes then it goes into this error condition. First thing to do is make sure the taps are turned on, they likely are so unplug the machine, shut the taps off then unhook the water lines at the rear of the machine, next look inside the vlave (where the fill pipes hook up) and check the filter screens, these are likely clogged.

Possible there are errors in the program memory. Power off the washer for half an hour, press and hold down the start button , then switch on. Try also with another program. Also check if the inlet filter is clogged and the water flow is good, if not clean. Also check the water level pressure sensor.

Whirlpool cabrio washing machine

FL error code generally means 'flood condition' which is telling you the machine is overfilling with water with water.

Try pressing STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

If the condition persists the water fill valve or sensor may be faulty and may need replacement.

Lf code on washer.checked hoses and valve both ok unit will run after opening the lid and closing lid and pressing start again. takes 10/15 minutes for a load to start

LF means that it is taking too long to fill. (If the water fill time exceeds ten minutes, the water valves are turned off and LF is flashed.)

Supply hoses could be kinked or clogged(some have screens in the end).
This could be a supply water pressure/flow problem. Make sure you have good water flow though the hoses to the machine. (Take off and try running into a bucket)
The water fill valve may be failing to open all the way or it could be clogged.
I hope this helps.

LF means long fill, so if your hoses arnt blocked and you are getting good flow, try looking at your drain pipe, it should only go about 6 inches into the actual drain and zip tie it there. any further it could syphon the water out of your machine.
