Change the Microsoft Office install root location in the registry.Important: The following steps require you to modify the Windows registry. Modifications to the Windows registry, if not done correctly, can cause serious problems to a Windows operating system. The information is provided as a courtesy. This information has been found to cause the error message and should correct the error. If you have reservations about modifying the registry please contact Microsoft Office technical support. Back up the registry before making modifications. More information on how to back up the registry can be found on the Microsoft support site at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box opens.
  2. In the Open field, type regedit, and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\[Version Number]\Common\InstallRoot and select the InstallRoot key. In the right pane, check for a value named Path.
  4. Right-click Path and choose Modify. Redirect the value to the local installation folder for Microsoft Office.

When trying to install keeps giveing error code 1606

Go to Start/Run/ Type in regedit.exe and then navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\INSTALLER\Products\.

Look for the folder of the installer of the application you are having a problem with. Then simply delete the subfolder, reboot your system, and reinstall.

You should backup your registry first before deleting anything.

Receiving "Error 1606: Could not access network location Startup"
To fix, Adobe seems to be having a conflict with Microsoft Office.
NO need to remove Microsoft Office (if you are having problems with install, upgrade or removal)!
Follow these steps:
1) Open Regedit, (Start -> Run -> (type in) regedit
2) Inside Regedit go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Office
3) Right click on "10.0" folder and select "Export" (and save a copy to your desktop).
(You can do this for the other number folders (like 9.0, 11.0, 12.0) if you want to be sure).
4) Verify that the file(s) have been put on your desktop.
5) Next, delete the folder "10.0" (or the folders you exported) from with in the registry (right-click - delete, confirm)
6) Install, upgrade or remove Adobe Acrobat 8.0...when done...
7) Go to the desktop and click twice on the "10.0" file (and each of the other files) and add back to the registry!
8) You should verify that MS Office products still work, and Acrobat should work too! That's it!
