If you can hear clicking then I am afraid there is a serious problem with the hard drive. The noise you can hear is usually known as "the click of death" when referring to hard drives.
Most common causes are that the drive unit was dropped or mishandled.
There is no known cure unless the data is mission critical in which case you could sent it to a data recovery specialist but this is usually VERY expensive.
If you are advised to place it in a freezer or anything similar then that is up to you but my advise would be to run from the person who may give this advise. This is very old fashioned advice and meant for very old types of drives that used to get very hot.
you could still use the enclosure though and just place a new hard drive in there.

I have an Acer Aspire 5738Z laptop with a crystal eye webcam. I have not the slightest idea how to use it or find instructions on my laptop. I want to be able to see my grandchildren and chat to them...

Check if the webcam gets detected in the device manager.I am not sure if you have windows XP or Vista or win7 on your computer.Assuming we may have vista/win7.try the following.click start and type 'device' in the start search bar.Once done, please click on device manager that appears at the top.The device manager page will open up.Look for imaging device.Expand it.if the webcam shows up there with out a yellow exclamation mark to it.We will require only a messenger service to be able to view someone.Try SKYPE.Create an account for yourself and your grand children. And you are all set.Open the following link to know more about SKYPE.

Reinstall the driver for it. You should be able to get it from dell. If it still doesn't work there may be a hardware problem.

External drive not showing up

Have you gone into disk management?

If it is vista, right click on my computer, and manage, disk management.

Check and see if the disk shows up there. If so, you will probably need to format it.

Vista has it's own format, and does not like the usual XP disk. I just went through this.

Computer dose not recognise my player

Have you tried going onto 'My Computer'? Or if Vista 'Computer'?

If you cannot see it on there, then right-click on 'Computer', then go to properties. If it's XP then click on the tabs until you find 'Device Manager' if your using Vista you should find Device Manager on the left hand upper side corner. Make sure you device is plugged in, and if it's not installed properly. You may see the device on there with a yellow warning like '!'. If you do, then right-click and you should find it say install. Click on there, and it should install it so then you can use it.

Hope that helps?
