OK I see what you have... What you need is tocheck the output of your sound card with other speaker to see if the card works.
you can also take a 9 volt battery and at the end of the speaker temination, connect, completing the circuit to the speakers and scratch one of the battery terminal one or the other. This should create a sound from the speakers

First Check the Cables they ought to be connected to the green socket.
Now check in your monitor display if the volume is set to loud and it is not mute.
Next check if there are any bangs in the Device Manager, If yes what are they ?,
It could be a PCI Device or a Multimedia Audio Controller.
Bang Means a Yellow Question mark or a yellow exclamation.
If any one of this exists than you need to install the HDMI or the sound drivers or both of them.
If there are no bangs than check in the sound utility if there is a check on digital speakers.
If there is a check mark against digital speakers than remove the check mark.
Still if the problem persists than get the motherboard replaced if the sound card is integrated and if it sound card is not integrated than get the sound card replaced. The motherboard normally has 3 yrs warranty and the sound card has 1 yr warranty.
This should resolve your issue.

Also you could check the speakers with a discman or any other audio device which uses the same pin

Worked last week computer crashes now restored speakers don't work now. another set of speakers work. &35's won't work on a different computer, Powers up clicks when plugged in but no sound /

You said, other speakers worked fine ono that pc right? And the speakers doesn't on other computers? Then surely the speakers are now defective. It might be the wirings or internal parts of the speaker. Check warranty of the speakers, if it is expired, then you have to replace the speakers.

Computer is not recgonizing my speakers?

Check the speakers with any other device. Probably the speakers are not working or if they work fine, connect any other working speaker to your system and check whether if they work or not.
If the other speakers also don't work you probably have a faulty port.

Windows 7 Audio Quadraphonic Not functioning well

Sounds like you are getting quad sound in the test process that checks them, yet when in windows media player or winamp (or whatever) your rear speakers aren't producing sound: Try setting your sound drivers to do something like "speaker fill" then you are set. I'm under the belief that stereo sounds aren't being matrixed into all 4 speakers.
