It sounds like you have a break inside the power cord.

Power wont stay on

It sounds Kirby has a new model with a new type of switch go back to the shop you bought it , if you have not read the manual , a tip , 1 look how the dustbag is connected it must be good connected if not the problem is there , second the hose the hose must be connected good because if not the problem is there more options are not there for the master switch . if its controlled that the switches are god pushed in by mechanic parts of the dustbag connector or hose connector , it must run and stay on power the dustbag is the one that is the most probable connection what maybe not enough is turned to the motor housing have a stabil working on -off switch. if it not does made difference go immediatly back to the shop. with proof of purchase, you get an other new one if its a factory failure. or the powercable was accidentially bruised between a door or linger behind the powerplug and that why its faltering maybe.

Spark caused vaccum to turn off

Some vacuums have a reset button you can push. Some have a fuse in the power line that may have blown. You will have to follow the power all the way through the vacuum checking the voltage at each switch, connection, etc. I often unhook the power & neutral wires from the motor and hook up a power cord with connectors on the end directly to the motor to make sure the motor is good. You must be very knowledgable with motors, switches, electrical testing, etc. If not this repair is best left to a professional.

The vacuum wont start

It could be many different things. Start with making sure full voltage is coming through the power cord, the switch and all wiring connections to the motor. If all power is ok to the. Motor you will need to check the motor to insure it is working properly.

there is a wire contact on your vacuum handle.
try to check all the wire inside your vacuum, or if you cant, try to call for an expert technician to check up your vacuum.

I have an open in the black wire leading down to the carpet sweeper (after the handle), thus the motor wont turn on. how do i get to the wiring to re-run a black wire?

Did you test the wire with the switch in the "ON" position. If not, try it before opening the handle.
The problem is more likely to be a worn out or broken switch, including a reset switch.
Also try connecting the hose directly to the power nozzle. If it works, then the problem is problem a loose or burnt out connection in one of the wand connections. Check connections for discoloring.

check the cord that goes from the handle to the brushroll housing. these usually go bad by the strain relief. also open up the handle and check to make sure the power cord wire didnt come disconnected from nthe switch, also a common problem. let me know if you need any further assistance

Wont shut Off

its the power switch, hoover has had that problem for years. I'd take it to a vac repair shop, sometimes the wires that connect to the switch get burnt as well and should be replaced.
