If the new one is identical to the old one, same make and model, then the PC still has drivers in its registry which should handle its twin brother, as their firmware language will be the same.

If you swap out for a different species, the computer may sulk, until you uninstall the old driver and install the new one.
That being said, the newer operating systems, combined with built-in firmware on many modern peripherals sometimes lets you 'plug 'n play', without driver install disks.
