I can get to the menu but the option to change channels or channel set up is not allowed

  • oleniriswood Jul 30, 2009

I can get to the menu but of the 4 choices 1)CH SET UP, 2)PICTURE, 3)LANGUAGE and 4)V-CHIP SET only the the pic/language/V-chip set are able to be used; the CH SETUP option seems to be unavailable (the "curser" type bar infront of that choice cannot be sellected by using the + or - arrows)

Turn you VHS on so it is putting a signal into the TV..
Go to the TV menue and do a chanel scan "add/delete"..
It will go through all available chanels and delete what has no signal and store which ones do have a signal..
After scan - you shoud have chanel 3 again..

Happy vewing ;o)

There should be a "chanel scan" in the menue

and I do not understand what you mean by "not allowd"

I do not understand why the "channel Set up" is not selectable..

It should be selectable - that is why it is there..

    Maybe something is locked..

Try unplugging it for 15 minuets or so to clear it..

When you turn it back on be sure the vhs sourse is on..

Some tv's will do a channel scan automatically after power loss..

Also - some tv menu selections can only be selected from the buttons on the tv and not the remote..

If all else fails - I would suggest getting a universal remote from WalMart or any other electronics retail store..

How can I receive and record cable channels on my Sony SLV 750 vcr? The tuner only displays channels 1-99 on the vcr. Thank you.

I will be assuming you have analog cable TV service, no cable box. If you have a cable box, the instructions would be different.

There are many steps to properly setup your Sony VCR and they should ALL be setup to correctly record channels, however just to cover your question here....

Press MENU on the remote control for the VCR and you should see on your TV screen, the main menu options. Select TUNER PRESET. Press OK. Set Antenna/Cable to CABLE. Next Select AUTO-PRESET. Available channels will be scanned. This may take a few mins. so be patient. Channels could go up to 125. This should make available cable channels ready to record/view.

You can ADD or Delete a specific channel also if one is missed or undesired by selecting MANUAL SET.

VHS-Dynex connection

well first it sounds like you need a vcr. then just plug the vcr into the aux inputs, either change the channel until you get to 'video 1' or something similar even 'aux' or on your remote press either 'input' or 'video' to get there

most vcr's dvd's and recorders have to have the remote..if you have cable or satellite, you can program that remote to run your other equipment under aux. or you can buy a inexpensive universal remote that can be programed to run your equipment.

Daewoo DVN-14F6N

Same problem...Went to Goodwill Store, they usually have a large basket of remotes. I found a Daewoo remote for a TV only, HOWEVER on the bottom it has a AIR/CABLE button. The remote doesn't say Daewoo on it only..."Remote Controller R-25B03". The rest of the button of course work with the TV portion of the DVN-14F6N.

Universal remote

Codes for Samsung (one of them should work on your RCA remote)

006,011,014,015,019,027,036,037,077

Programming Your Universal Remote.

The remote may already be set up to operate your brand of TV, VCR, or Cable Box. It is pre-programmed with following codes:
  • TV-000
  • VCR-000
  • Cable Box-000
  • AUX is programmed with VCR code 037
For brands that require programming, there are two ways to program: Using Code Lists or Code Search. Use Code Search if the code lists are not available or if the codes from the lists do not operate a device.

Programming a Device using Code Search:

  1. Manually turn ON your device (TV, VCR, Cable Box)
  2. Press and "HOLD" CODE SEARCH
  3. Press and release the device button you want to set up (TV, VCR, Cable Box) However, if you are using AUX for a device, press and release AUX first and then the device button for the type of device to be programmed (TV, VCR, or Cable). The selected device button will flash once.
  4. Release CODE SEARCH.
  5. Press OFF/ON repeatedly until the device turns off (you may have to press up to 100 times at a rate of once per second).
  6. Once the device turns off, press and release ENTER.
  7. With the device on, press any other button. If the device responds, no further programming is required. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 1-6.

Programming a device using the Code Lists:

  1. Find codes for each device and brand below.
  2. Press and "HOLD" CODE SEARCH.
  3. Press and release the TV, VCR or Cable button you want to set up. If programming AUX for a device, press and release AUX first and then the device to be programmed (TV, VCR or Cable). When the selected device button flashes proceed to the next step.
  4. Enter the three digit code from the TV, VCR or Cable Box code lists.

  5. Release CODE SEARCH.
  6. With the device on, press another button, for example CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 1-5 using another code number from the lists.

Reprogramming Channels

You need to get it to re-scan the channels again. It usually requires the remote to get into the setup. Maybe a Universal type remote would work, they're not too costly.

I am having trouble channel setting and recording.

If you have a bad or fuzzy picture when viewing tapes on VCR then you need a new video drum. I think you can buy another that is for your brand on the internet. More VCR Repair -

Cannot get DVD to Play on TV

Try the old RCA/GE channels of 90/91 or 92 to get to the inputs. Or try entering channel 00. Let me know if that works.

Cannot set Cable Default Channel

I believe you are getting mixed up between channels and programs. Normally program 00 is used for VHS as it has slightly different parameters for colour and brightness. If the TV has about 39 or more programs which can be programmed in from the on screen menu, try using program 20 for the video and 30 for the cable. For this to work you must do the on screen frequency scanning from channels 22 to 69 (UK) and select VCR, CATV, VHF, UHF, etc. I have used program 00 and 20 for two VHS recorders, working on channel 33 and 35 for example, but you must tune them to 33 and 35 on the `Tune' screwdriver hole by the aerial input sockets of the recorders. I expect if your cable unit plugs into your aerial socket of the TV that it has an adjustment for what channel it is on. The TV on screen menu may be different in some countries, so it would help if I knew where you are.
