Hello, Rosemary -

Apparently something in the microwave shorted out. You don't state the make and model of the microwave. There may be some kitchen appliance repair place in your area where you can take it to be looked at and _possibly_ repaired. However, it may be quicker, and more cost effective, to purchase a new microwave and have your old microwave recycled properly.

Note: These days many municipalities or counties have electronics recycling centers or specially identified days for residents to bring old and "dead" electronics for proper recycling. This is the Earth911.com web page you can use to find a place to recycle electronics near you (in the USA): https://search.earth911.com/?utm_source=earth911-header&utm_medium=top-navigation-menu&utm_campaign=top-nav-recycle-search-button .

Best wishes

Microwace noise coming from top and flashing

dont use the microwave until you retrieve what dropped inside when you removed the port. The grinding is most likely a foreign object that is hitting the moving parts of the microwave and causing sparking. It can catch fire

I bought a microwave at an aution. No owner manual Kenmore model #970-86116-001. It has an element in the top and has buttons that say microwave, convection, convection roast etc. There is no glass plate at...

If you press "convection" the oven works just like a regular oven except that the element is on top. In "microwave" it works like a microwave oven. All you have to do is decide which mode you want to use and then punch in the time and hit "start". The glass plate is not really a necessity as long as you make sure there is a load in the oven when you are "microwaving".

I need a replacement element (8 inch) for my Kelvinator range (model no. KRS J3L-1)

Hi, W/D here.
Here's the easiest way that I know of to repair your stove:
Remove your element. Most can be removed by lifting the element on the side away from where the leads disappear under the stove top, and then pulling it out of the plug-in socket.
Take the element with you to one of the larger hardware stores, and locate the elements that have your style of terminals. The elements are generic; that's why you needed your old one. I have replaced dozens of elements and have found the generics to be every bit as good as one ordered, and cheaper, too!
Best regards, --W/D--

Humming sound when off

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.

Fire from top of Microwave

It's not a dangerous or diffcult job for a do-it-yourselfer.

That would be the waveguide cover (also called the stirrer fan cover), and it would need to be replaced to prevent future damage to the magnetron.

Check your model number sticker to get the full model number with suffix and the manufacturer number (PACO1860AB0 for example).

Then you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Good luck and good cooking!
