Yes this is normal. The heat strip is there to prevent moisture from forming around the the door frames. It also is most noticeable if the heat wave is causing your refrigerator to struggle to cool. Cleaning the coil below the refrigerator and making sure good air circulation in that area will help. If you have any questions please let me know and visit my siites. Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator, Model JRSD2490. Not staying cold enough

Larger=colder. Make sure that 1) your magnetic strip around the fridge door is sealing well. Even a small leaking area could make it difficult to keep cold, especially in warmer areas. Also, make sure there is nothing obstructing the door from closing completely and sealing properly. I had this same issue where one of the door shelves was unlatched a little and the door would close but not seal. Beyond that could be motor or more likely compressor or coolant leak. Good luck.

The fridge is hot the center deviding fridge and freezer hot enough burn hand and center of fridgeon side with water/ice despenser is hot also i just pluged in fridge is that normal for the fridge

Hi, welcome to FixYa.

I`ll start by letting you know first the heat between the doors is normal, yes...to a degree, and done by design to help prevent moisture along the "breaker strip"/divider.(where the doors come together when shut)

If all else appears fine (temp. Ok, fans running, no significant frost build up on freezer back wall) it's likely nothing to be concerned about.

**Just be sure the condensor fan isn't jammed and still turning.** The fan at the back next to the compressor...In fact that is what I`d look for based on your post.

But just so you know, the amount of heat can be determined by several factor's such as,

1) temperature setting - lower ( colder ) the temperature is set the more the run time the hotter the strip.

2) The ambient temperature - hotter the environment the more the unit runs to compensate, hence the hotter the strip.

3) The amount of "fresh" content added to the unit ( especially freezer section if unfrozen items added ) - new items add a lot of warmth thus demanding the unit to run more to remove this heat (btu`s or british thermal unit`s )causing the strip to be hotter.

4) Build up of dust & dirt on the condensor coils - this also causes the unit to run excessively which in turn makes for more heat on this strip.

These are all things which can and do determine the amount of heat between the doors.

Another factor to always consider is of course If it is hot where you live the unit may just be running more to compensate as with other factors I mentioned.

Hope this answer's your question and let me know if I can assist you further.

The front of the divider between the freezer secion and the refrigerator section is very hot to the touch. What could this be ? Everything else seems to work fine. Thank you !!

Remove the front grill and clean the coils of dust , pet hair , etc . Also pull the refrig out and remove the lower back panel . Check the cooling ( condensor ) fan there to see if it is running or blocked by insulation or any object . If not blocked or turning , replace the fan motor .
These are the only reasons the center strip will get very hot .

Freezer is not cold enough.

that model is missing numbers. Checked the GE website and there are 3 versions of your fridge:
PSW26PSWSS
PSW26PSTSS
PSW26PSSSS

These are basic solutions to your problem that may solve it.

1. Check the magnetic/seal strip that is attached to the freezer door for breaks, tears or obstructions.
2. Check the temperature controls within the fridge and adjust accordingly.
3. If you are over stocking your freezer, take some of the large items out and check in a day if the temp is where u want it to be.

Kitchenaid Refrigerator door gaskets are getting very warm.

When the center divider gets hot, it usually means that your condenser fan (the one that blows air across the coils under the fridge) is not working, or that the condenser coils are extremely dirty. Next time the fridge is running, see if there is any air blowing underneath. You probably need a new condenser fan.

if this is a side by side refrigerator, then the space between the doors is not heated by an electric heater. it is heated by part of the condensing coil. so the excess heat is probably generated by a loss of adequate airflow under the machine. which would explain the temperature change in the refrigerator.
  • clean the coils under the machine and make sure the fan is working.
  • make sure the airflow is not obstructed in any way.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
