Question about Sylvania SRT2432S TV

Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

While watching a sport event, broadcasters show a bar at top or bottom of screen with the score of both teams and other info. My picture is too tall and can only see the very bottom of the top bar or very top of the bottom bar. How do you shorten the picture so the the bars are visible to read. I assume there is a pod adjustment on the chassis. I have not looked yet, but wanted to be sure before tackling this. If there is more than one pod to adjust, can you give me the procedure to adjust the picture?

Re: Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

Picture displaced vertically, picture too high or low
This problem was cured by entering the service mode (menu then 4,7,2,5), then pressing the green fastext button to access geometry settings, selecting VP1 (vertical position) and adjusting as necessary
Very low width and bowed verticals,no ew correction. R626 o/c
C630 (390nF, 300v) faulty, located next to scan socket. This fault can also be caused by R629 (2R7 fusable) o/c. In my set C630 was dry-jointed but not faulty. Check generally for dry joints in the E/W and PSU areas. Note that R629 is a safety component

Why do we have black bars on top and bottom of screen

Originally when 16:9 TVs were produced movies were being shot in 16:9 so that you had a full screen. Now they are being shot in 14:9 as it gives you a more cinematic experience. This is due to the fact that colours look more vibrant when they are placed against a colourless/lightless surface (such as a black panel) as for the bars on the side of the screen LuciferStarr is correct; it depends on the format in which the video was originally produced. For example most older television shows are still shown in 4:3 but newer shows and movies are produced in the widescreen format.

Picture slants right to left

Hope you have fixed this problem by now, if that tv is unserviced, I mean if nobody has ever opened it, it could be a problem with the positioning of your tv, just tilt the tv in different positions and find out the position in which it will show the right fit. If it is serviced, especially yoke is changed, this is rare, it could be because the position of yoke is not aligned properly.

Greeeting from Belize you are having a problem either with cold solder or a problem in the power supply those lines are hum bars due to a defected filter cap.resolder your power supply if that does not solve the problem then you replace the power supply you can get a power supply kit from in florida.good luck.also make check in the vertical section if you cannot do it your self take it to a qualified tech to resolve your problem this should cost you about $75.00. to get it fix.
