Tom tom xl2 wont let me type in full post codes

you will need an updated post code file that allows 7 digit post codes (if your in the uk)

http://www.tomtom.com/updates/great_britainpostal_all.zip

Just download that file then extract the files ,plug in your tomtom to your pc, open up the tomtom device in my computer(XP) or computer(Vista/Windows 7) and copy the extracted files into the zip folder, then unplug the device and you will be able to enter full postcodes

Tom tom is asking for map, i have errase current map on the Tom Tom xl 340s. how to i restore original settings

Download TomTom Home. Follow th link below for this purpose.
http://us.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_us.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5122&p_created=1150044449&p_sid=7XHxWOZj&prod_lvl1=&prod_lvl2=&cat_lvl1=&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0yNDIsMjQyJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9mbmwmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=&p_topview=1
Select your operating system (XP, Vista) on the link above.
Then click download. Once downloaded Install.
Once installation is complete, Reboot your computer.
Open tomtom home by clicking the icon on the taskbar.
Connect the USB cable to the GPS. Switch on the GPS. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the computer.
Wait for a few minutes for the GPS to go through the self check procedures.
You have a fair chance that a new map will download. Follow on screen instructions. If this does not work, Try clicking on tools (in the tomtom home software). Click on latest map guarantee.
If your free guaranteed map feature was expired, you may have to buy a new map unless you have a backup copy of the map. If you have one, just copy the map folder to the root directory on the GPS. You will see the GPS harddisk as you see a CD or DVD on your computer file manager.
If you do not have a backup, and if by chance a friend of yours have a TomTom, connect that device to a computer and copy just the map folder (It will be named USA_Canada_and_Mexico_p for example). It is pretty big folder with approximately 1.6 GB of data. Copy this folder to your GPS. This should fix your problem as a last resort.

TomTom 930 GO will not connect to TomTom Home

Try to use another computer or another usb port for it. You could also try different usb cable that fit´s into tomtom´s connector.

My DS says loading on the top screen! Help

I had this problem for awhile. Go to the R4DS home page (google it) and download the most recent firmware. If you have a R4DS clone, then you will need to find the home page of that device and download the firmware there. If the files are zipped, extract thim with the default Windows zipped files manager or 7-zip. Copy all the files inside to the root of your 2gb card. This should fix the problem.

Tom tom home does not see my tom tom go 520

Hi canal_boat_m

Try this solution:

STEP 1 Un-install Tom Tom Home from your PC

STEP 2 Click on the link below:

http://tomtom.com/lib/img/cs/S4S/files/RemoveRegEntries_TTGOv1.exe
This will download a little removal program for the Tom Tom Home program.
A Black window will appear briefly then close.
• Make sure that you have got Administrator rights on the PC. Otherwise you may not be allowed to connect new hardware (especially the case when using office computers)
• Reboot your PC

STEP 3 Visit Tom Tom website and download the current new version of Tom Tom Home and install it to your PC
STEP 4 Connect the TomTom

• Make sure the device is fully charged before connecting it to the computer. Ideally a mininum of 4 hours charge.
• Reset the device using a paper clip (see http://www.tomtom.com/6965). When resetting, keep the reset button pushed in for at least 20 seconds, but DO NOT turn the device back on just yet.
• Ensure that your TomTom has power connected to it. There should be a green light on the TomTom unit. If your device came with a Home Charger, please make sure that is plugged in to the TomTom also.
Your Tom Tom should ask you to 'Connect to Computer' if it does tap YES.

SOLUTION:
Your unit should now be recognized by your PC.

IF IT DOESN'T then follow the instructions below:

1. Connect your unit to your PC;
2. Copy two folders to your PC (namely 'Raster' and the one which holds all your maps - probably called 'United Kingdom and Eire';
3. Using Windows Utility, right click on the Tom Tom drive unit and select Fomat;
4. Switch off the unit and soft-reset it with a paper clip (but hold it in for at least 20 mins) and then re-connect it and power it up;
5. Tom Tom Home should now detect the unit and your unit should ask you to 'Connect to Computer' so tap YES;
6. Tom Tom Home will now say your device needs updating - and if you apply all the changes it will restore it to Factory Finished!
7. Then all's needed is to replace the two folders you backed up and any other items like mp3's and sounds, pics, etc.

Tom Tom 920

Your Favorites are located in the Map directory in the TomTom.
For example if your using the North American map (North_America).
In a file named MapSettings.cfg.
When you update the map and some times the application this file is overwritten.
I recommend copying the file to the root directory of the TomTom or your computer if changes are made. That way you have a easy back-up of your favorites file.

Unfortunately to recover your old file you may damage other file in the process.

I hope this helps.

Tom Tom 720 won't back up and falters during operations

You have to make a manual back up of the device. Make a new folder on your desk top. Connect your device to your PC and turn it on. Go to my computer and look for tom tom storage device and open it. You will see all the folders that is in your tom tom. Copy and paste just the yellow ones into the new folder. When you have done this you can know reformat your device. Do this by right clicking on the tom tom logo (in my computer). Click fat 32 (full format). This will wipe everything off. Disconnect your device, you will see a red cross on the screen. reset the device with a paper clip (hold in for 30 sec) You will still see the red cross. connect back up to PC and install the latest application of to tom home on to the device. From here you can go to add maps ect, and put your maps back on the device. Tom tom home will give you all the updates your device will be missing. You will only need the maps so don't worry if you can not copy all folders (for whatever reason) you can get everything you need as well as free updates for free via tom tom home. Its only the maps you have to pay for.

Tom tom 710

I am STILL trying to download the latest Wester Europe Maps to my Go 700. But I have found this answer to your question. Any tips on how I down load the v7.20 to my TomTom? good luck.

When navigating to a location in the UK or The Netherlands you should be able to enter full digit postcodes.
If you are only able to enter 4 digits, follow the instructions below.

  1. Download the file below and save it to your computer.

    downloadbutton.gif wezipcodes715.zip (10.5 MB)

  2. Extract the contents of the downloaded file to your desktop (on PC right-click the downloaded file and select Extract to).

    You will now have a folder called 'zip' on your desktop.

  3. Connect your TomTom device to your computer.

  4. If you are using a PC click Start > My Computer and double-click the icon for your TomTom device.

    If you are using a Mac click the icon for your TomTom device on your desktop.

  5. Copy the complete 'zip' folder to your TomTom device.

    Note: The 'zip' folder should be copied to the 'root' of your TomTom device. This means not inside one of the folders.
