Question about GE JVM1650 1000 Watts Microwave Oven
The microwave oven high voltage network is what generates the microwaves that heat your food. It is usually comprised of these four basic components:
1. Magnetron (WB27X10429)
2. HV transformer (WB27X10254)
3. HV Diode (WB27X1160)
4. HV Capacitor (WB27X10240)
In most cases these heat related problems are caused by a bad magentron. The magnetron is the main component of your high voltage network, and it is also one of the most expensive parts. Worst case scenario, you're looking at $110.
Now, YOUR microwave oven also has a thermal cut-out (TCO) on the magnetron (part number WB27X10166). It is designed to protect the magnetron and other internal components from an overheat condition by blowing like a fuse. It could be that your TCO is blown. A resistance check with the component removed should read zero ohms if good. Best case scenario if this part is bad is about $21 to replace.
You can view an exploded view diagram of your microwave oven at pcappliancerepair.com. I have already given you all the part numbers. The magnetron is listed as item 73. The TCO is item 77. I'm not guaranteeing these to be the cause of your problem, but I will tell you these parts fail the majority of the time.
So...I've given you some options to consider. I'm not sure how much a new microwave will cost, but it may be worth your while to repair this one (especially if the TCO is the only problem).
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
