Question about Dell Inspiron 1420 Notebook
Sounds to me like the keyboard may be going bad on you. What you may want to try is to unplug the keyboard and to plug it back in and see if that works. Could be that keyboard needs to be reseated into its slot. Do this with the laptop turned off. Its a tab that comes up. Where the keyboard is hooked up to the keyboard use a flathead screwdriver and put it a liitle bit underneath the tab that is holding the keyboard cable in place. Turn the screwdriver around to make the tab come up and it will release the keyboard cable. Then go ahead and make sure the keyboard cable is seated properly.
Turn on the laptop and if it works properly then your good, if your still having the same problems then the keyboard needs to be replaced.
