Backspace, g and h keys intermittently not working

I've never spilled anything on the keyboard, but have consistently had this nagging problem of these three keys not working intermittently. Any suggestions?

I have had the same problem on my HP dv6700....backspace, h, g (maybe more) just randomly work and then don't work...must be a simple fix b/c this sounds like a problem for a number of people on different computers...we must be in some weird function or something? Any help?

Same issue, same keys! Anyone ever find this problem??

  • Janzilah Oct 01, 2012

I have almost the same problem, but my backspace, return and spacebar keys malfunction. Spacebar ends up not working, the return key opens up a new tab or types xcv automatically, the backspace doesnt work. Its like my keys work one moment then change and have a mind of their own the next. What could be the problem?

Liquid is not the only culprit for Keyboards. there may be something under the key stopping it from working properly. try tipping the keyboard on its edge and shaking out anything that might be there. also a Can of Compressed air may dislodge what is in there as well. You dont mention if the keys go up and down easily or if the springs are functioning properly.

Why in my laptop acer extensa 4620 keyboard not working some keys?

You most likely have a defective keyboard. Has anything been spilled on it or etc.?? Try to connect an external keyboard and see if that works and if it does that will confirm damage/defect to the laptop keyboard and not some other problem which id doubtful in any case.

if the other keys are working, you need to check if there isnt anything underneath the key which could be physically blocking it to be depressed. let me know

The ''h'', ''backspace'' and ''g'' keys on my laptop do not work every few days, I have not spilled anything on the laptop or damaged it in any way.

there is no easy fix to this if you haven't spilled anything it most likely means there has been some wear to the conductors meaning you will need to have it repaired

My backspace key does not work.my laptop is Dell Inspiron 640m. Thank you.

Your backspace does not work.... well could be many reasons, but if its the key itself, you can replace just the dell laptop key, if you spilled something then you will need a new keyboard, we really need more info. Good luck!

Space bar, left-side enter key and backspace do not respond.

Try buying a can of compressed air and cleaning around those areas if you have spilled liquid on them ,that could be the prob as well

Spilled liquid on laptop keyboard

Search for a keyboard on eBay. Should be about $5-15. Type in "(model name) keyboard."

Certain keys won't function on keyboard

Could be that the connector from the keyboard to the mainboard is crooked. Try taking the keyboard off and wiggling the connector from the keyboard to the board so that it is a snugger fit.
