Re: problem w/shelf system stereo system!!!!!!!!1

You say that the fault lies in the sub-woofer speaker....

You will need to remove the back panel of the speaker box and make a visual examinatiojh of the contents there just may be an overload fuse there that you can replace your self...there may be a broken wire if the Sub-Woofer has been dropped...

There may be a capacitor or choke that has come loose from its mounting and in falling broken a wire,,,but please have a good look to see whats gone wrong inside the sub-woofer cabinet.

If you like you could take the backs of both the right and left
sub-woofer speaker boxes then visually compare the good one with the faulty one so you can see if there is any physical difference on the faulty one...if they both look the same then you willl need to do some testing with a multimeter set to Ohms to see where the break in continuity lies...just compare readings between the good one and the faulty one to find the fault..

Cheers From YUBEUT..

Right speaker terminal not working - tested out both speakers and they work fine when independently tested on the left speaker terminal. Sony MHC GX45 Shelf System, 2 speakers and 1 sub.

If the sound is also dead on that channel on a pair of headphones. Then you have probably lost the main power amp for that channel. To be certain. With you headphones on, slide or turn the balance control so you can only hear the faulty channel. With some music playing turn up the volume. If you can hear "faintly" music playing then the pre-amp is OK and the power amp has gone.
The power amp will be located on a heat sink. It will consist of 4 transistors (2 for each channel) or one big device (or two) (an IC). If it is transistors you only need to replace the two for the right channel.

My speaker outputs, including headphones, makes a loud pulsing sound. the stereo is a sony mhc-rx70 bookshelf system.

It is mobile phone system's problem, you can try to mobile phone shop where to install system. Instead of Stereo Earphone problem.

The Graphic Equalizer pattern control is not working correctly - I can hardly hear the vocal on my CD's when playing even though I've selected vocal. Vocals are outplayed by background music.

That sounds more like a polarity, or phase problem. Make sure your speakers are hooked up correctly, with the correct colors going to (+) positive, and (-) negative. Make sure your rca connection are correct, and that every connection has a left and a right. No stereo-to-mono adapters.

Is setting to "vocal" an eq selection, or a "dolby" stereo selection?

Are you using a dolby surround stereo receiver with left, right, center, rear, etc.?? If so, try turning off any effects, or anything that would send signal to the center speaker.

Lastly, depending on what the source of your music is, it is possible if your connections or receiver settings are not correct...that the music upon playback will be out of polarity, meaning the vocal portion will cancel out. Combining left and right signal together can sometimes do this as well.

Speakers crackle, then sporadically stop

Sounds like an amplifer fault. Many of these Midi system use a large black IC attached to a metal heatsink. They control both the power amp and pre amp on both channels. When they go wrong they can cause all sorts of effects,
If you can repair things I would look at that. If not get ready for a large bill. If it's the IC some are expensive, it does most of the work!

Home Stereo System

Sounds like a internal error on the amp itself. Maybe it caught a surge, I had a stereo unit that got zapped by the way it was unplugged from the wall.
