Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer does not progress through cycle

When we turn the dial to begin the wash it never moves forward. We have to set a timer and go out to the washer over and over to turn the dial to the next part of the cycle.

It might be the pressure switch which in part controls the cycles eg when water enters drum air pressure builds up through a tube connected to pressure switch which has electrical contacts.it is round in shape and if is the fault, it has to be replaced. regards

Washer will not cycle

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Does not progress through cycles. Washer will fill and agitates, but must be moved manually to each succeeding cycle (drain, rinse, spin, etc.) Wherever it is set in the cycle, it remains there.

It sounds like a defective timer. The timer is behind the dial that you use to set the cycles. You will need to remove the screws that hold the top control panel down. Once these screws are removed the panel will flip up. Then you will be able to get to the timer. Verify that there are no loose connectors causing the problem. Also blow out the timer with compressed air to clear out any dust that might be causing a malfunction. Otherwise you may need to replace the timer.

I have a Hoover 550 MB Top Loader washing machine . The cycle won't move from wash to spin . it doesn;t progress out of wash cycle , it stays there forever .

Will the unit spin if you manually turn the timer dial to spin? If so, remove power, remove the clock motor from the timer, and inspect the clock and mating timer gearing for debris or damaged gear teeth. At the worst, replace the timer. You may be able to scrape or file the damaged teeth so that the timer will progress.

The washer will not move forward automatically. I

it may be the timer or the heater has gone faulty in which it will not advance the timer from the stats. is it heating ? if not theres your answer, if so it may be the stat or the timer itself.
