Yes you can reformat and re-install Windows but you need to get the rest of the needed drivers like sound and motherboard from the manufacturers website.

DeskTop PC Rebooting

On a pc this old the capacitors start to dry up. If it's that then it's time to buy a new pc.
Simple test: try going in the BIOS. If (by miracle) you can, change the boot order and put the cd first. Then boot from a Linux Live-CD like http://pclinuxos.com/
If that works then Windows was completely corrupted by malware. Reinstall and next time use a better antivirus.

Change the boot sequence in the bios and let the windows be in the top drive, save changes and exit let it boot from the disk and follow the steps below
Do a repair of your XP installation.
•Boot from the XP CD
•At the Setup screen - Press enter (NOT R for repair)
•PgDn and press F8 for the Licensing screen
•Select the XP installed location and press R to repair
•Setup will copy install files and then reboot the machine DON'T REBOOT FROM THE CD. Let it boot from the hard drive.
•When it is done the process, remove the CD and reboot normally.
This applies to all os like win xp vista and win7

How to install windows on a new hard disk

Hi!

You need to have the Windows Installation disc and also the license to be able to install a new copy of Windows.

First step is to boot into the CD/DVD. Set the boot priority of your computer to the CD/DVD drive via the BIOS utility. You usually hit F5 once the computer boots up. And then Boot Device Priority. Press Esc and then save the settings.
After you are able to boot in the CD, follow the screen prompts until you go into the partition screen. I would advise that if you only have one hard disk, partition it into two. One is for the system and another is for the data. This is to make sure that even if your windows crash, you can still retrieve your files saved under the second partition. Finalize the installation, wait for the process to continue and then reboot.

Take note that you need to run Windows Update after the installation. This is to ensure that your version is fully patched. Do not forget to install an anti-virus too for enhanced computer protection.

Help install sound software

Hi Thabz, a system that request you to keep rebooting the PC is normally caused by a program you recently installed. If you are able to continue running windows with out windows restarting & able to get into Add/Remove programs long enough to uninstall that program than try it. (this is more often not possible). You can also try presing F8 every 2 seconds (while booting thePC) & load windows boot menue. Here you can pick (Disable automatic restart on system failure). Try again to uninstall that recent program. Another option using the F8 key, you can also pick (last known good configuration).
If these haved all faild than I suggest you re-install windows, (over write it).
You can repair windows by booting to your Windows CD & reinstall windows. A reinstall will not earse your data, it will over write windows. Some programs will need to be reinstalled but your personal data will stay.
Here is the link for your Gigabyte board, (includes drivers & Manual).

Best of luck to you!
If I can be of more service, just ask.
