Are the following true for you: your flash drive is NOT actually PHYSICALLY broken, your your computer can recognize it, your computer assigns it a drive letter? If your answer is yes you can always try flash drive recovery software.

However, software will not work for drives that are not being detected, or recognized. This means you likely have a problem with the controller chip on the device, or a physical problem. In other words it has failed, or become corrupt.

Because of the size of the circuitry and parts, how the device receives power, as well as the difficulty of soldering, unexpected damage is a frequent issue with DIY attempts on these drives. Defensorum soldering irons have the potential to burn or melt the printed circuit board, make the recovery much more difficult for a professional, and even cause the drive to be unrecoverable.
Solder can easily be crossed with points on the drive shorting out other components that are required for the drive to communicate with the computer.

Another common mistake is when the prongs, or whatever contraption being used to connect the drive to a computer is improperly connected, the memory chips and/or other components can be damaged due to improper power being supplied.

I got a new transcend USB jetflash drive 16GB, but my system not showing any response towards it, what shall i do..??? is to download a software for it...??

Flash drives do not need a drivers (plug and play). There are several possibilities:

1. Assumptions: USB port error, computer drivers normal, normal flash drive.
Solution: insert a flash drive into another USB port. If the USB port 1 is not detected, insert flash drive into a USB 2, USB 3 or USB 4.
2. Assumption: normal USB ports, computer driver error, a normal flash drive
Solution: reinstall the chipset drivers, or USB.
3. Assumption: normal USB port,
computer driver normal, flash drive is broken
Solution: try to insert the flash drive into another computer. If the flash drive is not detected, it means your flash drive is damaged.

Solution to determine the cause of damage:
1. If you have a USB mouse, use the mouse to check the damage to the USB port. Example: connect the mouse to the USB 1, USB 2, USB 3 or USB 4. If every USB port, mouse is detected, the conclusion normal USB port
2. To check your computer's drivers, right-click My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager

3. If points 1 and 2 are normal, the possibility of flash drive damaged.
Because the new flash drive, flash drive is most likely normal. Based on experience, cause damage to the flash drive is a USB port is dirty. The USB port is dirty, can cause short-circuit flash drive. The characteristics of short-circuit flash drive. When inserted into a USB flash drive (about 5 seconds), the temperature of the flash drive become extremely hot. Every tym i insert my pendrive it says insert disk into the drive...???removable disk appears..but it doesnt opns...is there any solution...plz do help me

Assumption 1
Flash drive is damaged, the normal operating system.
Solution
If the flash drive is detected (eg; detected the flash drive in drive G), but it says "insert the disk into the drive ..."
1. Download software JetFlash Online Recovery (open link - select type software - select OS Windows - select language English - select product JetFlash All Series - Download).
2. Insert the flash drive
3. Open file OnLineRecovery.exe - Select the volume of the device - Repair the drive & keep data existed - START. If it fails, select Repair the drive & erase all data - START.

If the flash drive is not detected (not detected as drive G),
the above solution can not be used.

Assumption 2
Normal flash drive, the operating sytem is corrupt
Solution
Flash drives do not require drivers (plug and play). Because flash drives plug and play, it should be, when the flash drive inserted detects the operating system without installing drivers. But, if the operating system does not detect, the possibility of operating systems corupt. The cause is a virus corrupt your operating system.

1. Download and install anti-virus Avira or AVG (free).
2. Update anti-virus
3. Scan your computer.
4. Repair the operating system.
5. If no virus is detected, the possibility of operating system is corrupt.

I hope this information helps.

Flash drive

Hi phun2008

Did your question get answered? (I'm not sure what "no thanks" was in response to.)

Your flash drives should work fine w/ Windows XP. They should be detected by the operating system as mass storage devices - plug-n-play - w/ no need for drivers installtion, etc.

You may, however, experience detection issues w/ them on systems w/ older USB hardware. If the flash drives are USB 2.0 drives, they will not be detected on systems running USB 1.1 or earlier - regardless of the OS (operating system) installed.

On the other hand, if they are USB 1.1 flash drives, they should be detected fine on both older and newer USB ports as USB 2.0 is "backward compatible".

I hope this helps.
