Does the Genie box have screen settings in in? Sometimes hd will show in smaller screens. Makes the picture nicer. If you adjust the screen size with your remote the high definition "niceness" will not be there.

Unless you get some sort of video capture decide (USB or Card) and connect that to your macbook, then there isn't a way to do it
