Question about GE GSS25SGSSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

The freezer side is cold but the fridge is not...its not completely warm but not cool enough to keep everything from melting. where are the heater coils located?

I have found that running an extra defrost cycle solves this dilemma ( I did it by running the test mode for the defrost cycle.)

There should be a nob in the back of the fridge or somewhere that controles the temp.

Gss25xsrd ss GE fridge gets warm on the top (both fridge and freezer side) and freezes at the bottom. Ice completely melts and veggies in the drawers freeze too.

Refrigerator and freezer are cold but not cold enough

Refrigerator is in garage, the freezer is not keeping things frozen.


If it's not a standard defrost issue it could be the temp in th garage-Your cold control is monitoring the temperature of the refrigerator section and is designed to turn off the compressor to keep things from freezing in that section. If it stays cold long enough outside in your garage the cold control thinks its cold enough and won't turn the compressor on. A makeshift closet to hold a little heat the unit generates will probably help.

Both top sections fridge/freezer of my side by side are not cold


Sounds like a defrost problem. Remove food from freezer section, take the back wall out after removing shelves, and use a hair blower to melt off the ice and frost. Most likely you need to replace the defrost heater.

The refrigerator side is not cooling but the freezer is


The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

My kenmore refrigerator side by side


All the cooling takes place in the freezer and is blown over to the frig side so the frig side will start to warm up soon. Possible cause is the starting device to the compressor is faulty, compressor motor locked up or cold control faulty and not closing.

GE side by side fridge/freezer not cooling anymore despite increasing settings


  • if is not cooling at all (completely warm/ room temperature) then it could be the start switch on the side of the compressor.
if is a little cool but not cool enough, Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
