Edger - shaft broken

I have a Ryobi edger 725r rev 800 and the shaft broke off at the clutch. Is this worth taking for repair or just buy a new one?

Take to shop and ask them how much would
it cost to fix and then you can decide from there.my guess is buy a new one.have to look at it first to be 100 0/0

You must remove the boom, clutch housing, and the clutch assembly. Clutch drum will have most likely a trox head retaining screw accessed through drive cable hole.

Broken flexible shaft

There are so many details missing from your question...
first, does the shaft break down into 2 pieces ( so as to accept different attatchements) ?
if so which end is broke?
second, how did you determine the shaft is broke?
have you eliminated the possibility of a stripped end in the head?
Have you eliminated the possibility of a stripped end in the clutch ( the most likely cause of failure) ?
Have you eliminated a failed clutch?

I suggest you diagnose the unit carefully first then decide what it is worth to you to fix versus replacement. A shaft is about $30 from your local dealer.

I broke the flex drive shaft but can't remove the head to get out the broken shaft piece. I got the big part of the shaft out from the top. the bump head has been replaced by the kind that you cut 2 pieces...

The flex shaft drive you are referring to is only sold as a assy that I am aware of. You can try www.partstree.com for the replacement shaft assy. you are refering to, however you may find out by the time you buy a new shaft assy you may be money ahead just buying a new trimmer.
Sorry

I fixed mine with hose from a auto parts store. It was air line for a air ride shock. I removed the tank and fed the new hose thru the tank with wire. Heat it at the end to push over the nip on the carb. Back to work now, cut that grass.

Replacing Drive Shaft for a Ryobi 725r

The lower flex shaft should cost around $40, unless you order it online and have to pay shipping. You should be able to get one from your local MTD dealer. (Ryobi is owned by MTD)

The pull rope broke on my ryobi 705r/725r gas trimmer. I have all the screws off but it seems to be held on by the center shaft that spins. What do I do now?

I have the same issue of clutch removal on a Ryobi 725r. Actually the clutch finally died after many years of use.
Instead of using a screwdriver to hold the piston I recommend using a piece of clothesline rope. It will be easier on the internal components and won't scratch up the cylinder walls or piston. Just be sure to leave a small amount hanging out of the spark plug hole so you can pull it out afterward.
