Question about Belkin N Wireless Modem-Router F5D8633au4A

1 Answer

I can't get my Belkin router to accept WPA in security.

My wireless connection currently remains unsecured. I have gone into Security under Wireless in the router IP address. I have changed the tab from disabled to WPA, but it goes back to disabled before I can click on change settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the prompt reply Joed, unfortunately it didn't work. I have done everything else with the router to secure it, but it won't accept the WPA or even the WEP for some reason.

    Any other ideas?

Reset the router then try it.:
Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit.
Step 2 With the unit powered on, press and hold the Reset button.
Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.
Step 4 Release the Reset button.
Step 5 The unit will reboot. Allow 20-30 seconds before reconnecting.
Step 6 The device is now at factory defaults.

Setting the router's administrator password

All Belkin Router's ship without an admin password. If you require an admin password then follow the below instructions.

Setup steps:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1
  4. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

  5. Click on System Settings under Utilities on the left-hand side of the opened page.

  7. Click "Apply Changes". Your new password is now active.

Note: Do not forget the new password and keep it somewhere safe. If you forget your password, you'll be unable to access your router's settings. If you forget or lose your password, you'll need to "Perform a hardware reset on the router". This will reset the password to its default, as well as erase any and all other settings you may have changed

I cannot connect unless unsecured. Will not connect in WPA-2 mode.I have tried Belkin and now Linksys. Could any of Microsoft Security updates be the problem? I have security pack 3,Win XP Pro.

Are you certain your Wireless router and laptop both support WPA-2 Mode. If one does not you are out of luck. You will need an updated router or a newer wifi card for laptop. if both support the feature call the router manufacturer for assistance. Most usually have free tech support...if still under warranty.

My Router works only if I do not put security password on it.

The router works only if the network is unsecured.
When you secure the wireless network , make sure that you will change the wireless network name also. Because if you change the wireless security and if you keep the same network name then your computer will try to connect to the same network name with the old unsecured settings saved on the computer.
Try to change the SSID ( network name ) and security to WPA, check if that works.
If that doesn't work then I believe you will need to upgrade the FIRMWARE of the router.

I have a F5D9230-4 and a few months ago got a WII. I've tried to get the WII set up to go wireless thru my router to their website. It accepts everything but when it tries a connect test it fails and...

  1. Turn of wireless security in the router, see if you can get the Wii to work UNSECURE.
  2. If the Wii, connects with security turned off, then enable security on the router (WPA is recommended) and a 10 digit key (I use an onld phone number from my childhood)
  3. Go back to internet settings on the Wii, select the wireless configuration you were using, click advanced, and enter the WPA key.
  4. Test connection Wii should work

WEP to WPA

Ok, access your routers web management page.

From the menu on the left, select Wireless, then Encryption.

You should be able to change the settings there.

As im sure your aware, you will have to reconfigure the other 5 clients to use WPA after doing this. I would recommend having a least on client connected by ethernet to the router so that if changes make the wireless inaccessable, you can still access the routers configuration.

Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO (F5D9230-4)

hello!

normally, if you configure the wireless security settings wirelessly, it will automatically disconnect you from the network. you have to input the security key on the laptop first before it connects you back to the network.

i suggest, if you really like to configure the settings of your router, get an ethernet cable, connect it directly to the laptop so you can access and configure the router settings and to avoid from being disconnected

I have a Belkin FSD9230-4 wireless router, it says it is unsecured when I go on using my laptop. How do I secure the wireless connection?

You will have to login to the router's web utility, go to wireless security settings, and choose either WEP, or WPA. After selecting one of the two you will need to select a passphrase which you will need the next time you connect. I suggest WPA personal, because it offers a stronger encryption method than wep, making it more secure.
