Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

My kenmore series 80 electric dryer does not heat. I am replacing the TCO, but it does not appear to be hooked up. There are red wires going directly into the heating element, but the TCO lead is unconnected ( Only the heating element was hooked up). I did have a repair done on this dryer a few years ago, and I suspect he hooked it up improperly. The wiring diagram shows the TCO is in series with the heating element. Should the one of the red wires connect to the TCO and the other to the heating element NOT connected to the TCO? ie: REDWIRE...TCO..HEATING_ELEMENT..REDWIRE ??

Yes, hook it up, but before you do that Vacuumn every piece of lint out of the cabinet. Also check TCO and check the thermostats for continuity. They should all read zero ohms.If one of them is open, replace it.

Also use your ohmmeter to check the heating element, It should not show an open condition.

What are you referring to with TCO ?

Is the a sequencer switch for the heating element, it looks basically like a limit switch, only it has a control coil on it.

MY KENMORE 80 SERIES DRYER ISN'T HEATING

remove the entire exhaust vent and clean it thoroughly. Any build up of lint inside of it will cause the moister sensor in the dryer to shut down the burner or grid which ever you have, gas or electric
After cleaning it and it still does not work correctly the sensor is at fault and needs to be replaced

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 110.86980800 burning smell

If this is a new element, this is normal until it has been used a few cycles. Use it and watch it carefully for a while. If it continues have a competent person to take the rear panel off and check for burnt wires or lint inside the unit.

I have a kenmore 80 series electric clothes dryer that will not heat. i am needing to know which part is the heating element, and describe what it looks like

Hi, The element is located in the back right side on most models. It is in a housing and has two red wires going to it. Also check the thermo stats if the element is ok.

Kenmore series 80 gas dryer will not heat up

Hi. this dryer has a set of coils that sit on top of the actual gas valve assembly. these coils activate the main and secondary gas valves and if the coil assembly is malfunctioning or, the wires and clips are corroded, the coils will not activate the gas valves to open and close. this malfunction will affect the heating process within this dryer unit.

I recommend inspecting the dryer coil assembly. use a mulitimeter to test for Resistance. you should get a reading of some type of current flow through the wires and, if this is the case, the coils are bad and they will need to be replaced.

This test is actually not needed. the non existing heat is a red flag on its own and, it greatly confirms a major failure within the coil assembly. replacing the coils will fix your dryer.

PLease rate and god bless:)
