My 5-year-old GE 31GT740 turns on ok. Within a few seconds, it turns off by itself with a clicking noise, and a few seconds later, clicks on again. After a few cycles of "off" and "on", it stays off. It acts the same way whether I use the remote or manually turn it "on". Is it worth fixing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, George

The TV will turn on and off by itself. Also the channels will change constantly on it's own. I have unplugged the circuit board which controls the buttons on the front of the TV and the problem stopped. Only problem now is the remote does not work and of course I can not operate the TV. The part I am looking for is 1515631E.

I have a very simular problem I can turn on and off the tv with my remote after hitting the on/off botton five or six times. It clicks like it is coming on then about a sec. it clicks again like it is turned off. Where my problem is different is that when I do get it to turn on my remote will let me change the channel on my cable box, but if i try to change channels on the tv itself the guide comes up. This happens no matter what bottons I press. I can't even adjust the volume. The bottons on the tv don't even work. Can't use them for anything, not even to turn the tv on or off, adjust the volume or change channels.

Mine is also five years old. It used to turn off by itself and stay off. Now it clicks like it is coming on then keeps making a clicking noise for about five seconds then stops. It does not turn on though. Before it stopped working completely, channels 2-6 would only have static. Repair shop says transformer and some transmitters are out and it will cost $169 to fix but I don't trust them anyway.

My 5-year old31GT740 turned itself off earlier this week and now only clicks a few times when you puch the on button.
Replace C604 (1000uF, 16v) elec. cap. It is in the decoupling circuit for the 5 volt supply
Reverts to standby from switch on via TV or Video
No 5v rail because FET MTP3055 o/c. (BUZ71 will do nicely)
Goes straight to standby, after a quick burst of power
Replaced R952 (39K), had gone slightly high
