Get on their website and get the wiring diagrams. They should also have the resistances of the windings. Checking these resistances, may indicate a stator problem. Give the model number and it will be easier to help.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

PM0557523 7500 WATT Vertex Coleman missing Capacitor.Need a wiring Diagram for AVR.0065649 Board I have a new capacitor comming and new Diodes.but I dont see where the wires conect to the AVR board?!

There are at least two AVRs for this generator. The original AVR has the diodes mounted on an external heat sink. The updated AVR has the diodes mounted directly on the circuit board. I have a schematic of the original model with the external diodes but it doesn't have the values or parts on the schematic. I will be more than happy to e-mail you a copy of what I have.

We have a Valsi 5500 watt generator that isn't putting enough voltage out to run everything in out small travel trailer. It runs the lights but doesnt push out enough voltage to carry the A/C, microwave,...

How long have you had this generator?
Has the generator worked on all of these loads before?
Model 5500 is a 5500 Watt generator which could easily be 5500 watts (Peak) and not continuous.

Your AC is an inductive load.
Your lights are resistive loads

An inductive load can cause issues when starting due to an increased current demand at start up that some generators cringe under. Do the lights flicker or are they stable? I'd say your diodes on your stator are working if you have light stability but you haven't provided nearly enough information for a detailed solution.

I'm sure you have enough voltage but you aren't getting enough current to run specific loads. How many watts is your AC? How many watts for your microwave? Both of these units demand a great deal of energy to run and when you place too much demand on your generator, it will choke it out and eventually, will cause damage to the generator. You may consider getting a beefier generator with a greater amount of wattage output.

Seeing these specs online and noting what you are trying to run, you have an undersized generator and need to get one that can produce a greater amount of running wattage (as well as peak wattage).

No AC Output after sitting up for 2 years

If the field circuitry is good (winding, diodes, AVR, [rings and brushes if any], try to recharge the field for a few seconds when motor is running, with a 12 V battery "B+" to "F+", "B-" to "F-".

Older Coleman 3500 Watt generator, sitting for over 2 years. engine starts and runs normally, but no power generated.

there can be many reasons. need more info:
Is it Inverter typr generator?

measure output voltage - anything?
take back cover off generator itself, measure continuity of stator and rotor, and visually inspect windings. You'll find AVR module there too, it may be the reason.

5250 running watts output on 220 side is 300 volts, 120 side is 175 volts what is wrong

I can't tell you what type of rotor excitation you have without the model number but,

If its capacitor excited then you have a bad capacitor(s). If it has a voltage regulator then it could be bad or the sensing wires going to it are bad. If the unit is not sensing proper voltage its going to increase excitation thus causing your units voltage to be to high.

Coleman powermate 3000 watt has no output.

open the round cover from the stator side and open the brushes (they are obvious after opening the cover as well as the AVR) if you see something wrong with them (broken part..or not reaching the slip rings).replace them..then try again...
if that didn't help or the brushes were fine, then screw-open the AVR after disconnecting the three wires of the AVR. if you see burns or smell them..then replace it.
also check your breaker with an ohmeter.

that should do it.

Coleman 5000 generater-no AC output

have you conected the brushes on the right way? the leads are + and -.

you can run it up and use a 12v battery and connect it to the brushes correct polarity, with the othe LEADS removed and taped can shock you and chect the out put it it around 100 120v chech the AVR or brush polarity.

If yours dont have brushes it will have a capasitor that is prob out of spec.

Try replacing the capacitor. You can buy it from http://www.jackssmallengines.com/do_it_home.html. When you pull off the power end of the generator look at the diodes also. If they look toasted replace them as well
