Use a lens cleaner to clean your CD player's lens properly. Unscrew the top cover of the player and locate the laser lens, which is located just adjacent to the central disc drive. ... If theCD player is still skipping after the lens has been cleaned, there is likely a hardware problem that needs to be solved.31 Mar 2015

Why does a CD player skip? They don't scratch as easily as vinyl LPs, but I've damaged half a dozen CDs over the years. If a CD is skipping, first give it good clean using a CD wipe or mild soap and water. Dry carefully with a lint-free cloth in a straight line from the centre to the edge. Rubbing in circles can cause more damage.12 Aug 2005Buyer beware: to fix a CD that skips, first try good old soap and water ...www.telegraph.co.uk/.../Buyer-beware-to-fix-a-CD-that-skips-first-try-good-old-soap-an...Search for: Why does a CD player skip?

SOURCE: My CD player keeps flashing (F15) when I try to play a disc.

It means that the laser/motor module is disconnected. Open the player and locate the connection band of the module. It should be orange, about 1 cm wide and it comes out from under it. Push it HARD into it\'s socket. Make sure you don\'t leave sweat or grease on the electronic and test it. I hope it works for you!

SOURCE: cd tray mechanics

It can be repaired but in all of my years in consumer repair, I dread the CD/DVD tray alignments the worst.

There are many things involved in getting them to operate without fail. Using the mfgs documentation you can get them up and running but most of the time they failed because something is amiss to begin with. So you spend an hour getting everything setup and it will work once or twice but them fail. Only to find out that a location sensor is bad or a gear is missing a tooth....

SOURCE: cd skips

If the unit continues to skip after cleanig the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol, the optics are failing and need to be replaced. These units use Sony optics (KSS-213C I think) and are readily available for $25 or so. Any service shop should be able to replace this for under $100 total.

SOURCE: CD player skips

Try cleaning the lens. If you can see the lens when you open it to put a cd in, you can clean the lens yourself with a q-tip. Use a very small amount of alcohol or windex, just enough to make the tip of the q-tip moist, and rub it on the glass lens in a circular motion. then use the dry end of the q-tip to dry it off. You can then try another cd and see if it plays good. If so, you are good to go, if not, you probably need a new laser pick up. If it needs a new laser, you may want to just buy a new boombox. The repair will most likely cost as much or more than a new boombox would.

If you are not able to see the lens and clean it yourself, try using a cleaning disc. They do not work as good, but they can help. You run it for about 20 seconds, or whatever the directions state. Then give it another try, see if it plays better.

Those are the only reasonable steps for an end user who is not experienced with repairing these type of units. anything else you may end up trying could just cause more damage to the unit, if you are not experienced with electronic repairs.

I hope this helps, let me know if you need more help.

Audio Books

There are several brands and publishers of audio books and you didn't identify yours. In most cases professionally produced audio books are separated into several 3-6 minute tracks. your CD player should just skip to the next using the button with the single arrow pointing to the vertical line. >l

When listening to audio books, If I'm using a cd player that doesn't retain the last track when shut off I make a mental note of the track number.

Hope this helps

Sony cdp cx 355 skips on first track

Could be some dust or debris in the unit. Also be careful that you are not putting fingermarks near the hole section of each CD you put in, as the CD plays from the centre out.

Kenwood portable cd player dpc-741 skips.

Hello

The skipping happens because the lens is weak,to solve this problem open the cd player so you can see the lens.Clean the lens with cotton wool dabbed in a little methylated spirit(wipe carefully). This should stop the skipping.

If the skipping continues then the lens is too weak to play CD's so it is best that you change the lens of your CD player.

The "program" button; what does it do?

The program button programs CDs to only play what songs you want, It makes it so your CD player will automaticly play only the songs you want to hear.

In-Dash car cd player

It sounds as if you've covered about as much as you can do without pulling it out and taking to the repair shop. Something you should definitely do if all this skipping is taking place whilst the car is stationary. A lot of earlier car CD players wouldn't accept the burn it yourself type disks and perhaps the factory CD was damaged. Try a few more factory CDs before you do anything else. Just because a disk plays on the Computer or cd Player in the house doesn't mean it will behave itself in the car. If you've has the unit for a while you could have the smear of grease they put on the worm drive gummed up with dust and this is stopping the disk carriage from moving freely. Or perhaps the heads are out of alignment due to constant vibration from rough roads. Either of these problems would mean a removal and either a clean or the repair shop. BMW
