Question about Hampton Bay HBLG5004 Air Conditioner
HAMPTON BAY 10,000 UNTI INSTALLED NEW 3 YRS AGO BUT NOT USED FOR 2 YEARS..
USED MODERATELY LAST YEAR AND WORKED WELL EARLIER THIS YEAR.
NOW COMPRESSOR SEEMS TO GO ON BUT FOR SHORT TIME ONLY.
AIR IS BARELY COOLED.
CANNOT LOCATE MANUAL OR MODEL NUMBER.
An air conditioner overheating is often cause by dust blocking the cooling fins. Check for dust behind the front panel (remove it first). A few years ago I removed the enclosure on my air conditioner and, with a garden hose in the yard, used a fast water stream to remove the blockage. It worked well. More recently, with another air conditioner, all I had to do was peel off the dust from the front of the fins.

If the compressor runs for a short time only it could be overheating due to a lack of refrigerant i would suggest finding a contractor who specializes in hampton bay to take a look at it
