SOURCE: one side of my ARIENS ST928 SNOW BLOWER doesn't work

most likely you have a broken shear pin. Look on the side that works, there should be a bolt or pin through it. The side that is not working is probably broke off. Find the hole in the auger and line it up with the inner shaft and replace with proper shear pin/bolt. Shear bolts can be obtained from most outdoor power equipment shops. I do not suggest replacing with standard bolt as it can cause damage to you gear box it auger gets jammed.

SOURCE: auger on my snow blower won't turn.

First take a look at the shear pins they will be located on the augers going thru the auger and auger shaft, if they look ok then you need to take the belt off, with the belt off try to turn the im peller by hand. If the impeller does not turn then you need to look to see if something is stuck in the impeller or in the auger. If nothing is stuck in between anything then I would have to say it's going to be the gear box. If the impeller turns then look to see if the auger is turning also while turning the impeller. If the auger doesn't turn then it's probably the gear box. If it does turn then you have an issue at the pulleys

SOURCE: I have an Ariens 926LE

Hi, The blower spins at full speed? If it does the belt, pulley, and shaft are good. Look at the shaft from the fan to the gear box while it's running and that shaft should be turning at the speed of the fan.
If the blower spins at full speed and the auger doesn't the most likely problem is the worm gear transmission from the blower shaft to the auger shaft.
A good way to visually inspect this is: With the machine turned off and the spark plug wire unhooked go to the front and try to rotate the auger by hand. If the gear box is good you will only be able to move the auger less than an inch. If the box is bad you will be able to move the auger a lot farther. While you are there recheck your shear pins.
You can also remove the blower drive belt and have someone turn the pulley by hand while you watch the auger. Put resistance on the auger with your gloved hand. If the box is good the auger will move smoothly in you hand. If it is bad, it will ****, move roughly, or stop.
While the other person is turning the pulley and you have some resistance on the auger look closely at the shaft running from the gearbox back to the blower. On some models there is a connecting sleeve and the roll pin that connects the sleeve to the shaft and gearbox will break.
If the gearbox is bad, it will have to be replaced as a complete unit.

Auger does not stay engaged when the lever is released to turn the chute, even though the traction drive is still engaged. Very annoying when trying to clear snow. How can I remedy this? Thanks

Either two things come to mind, first I would check the shear pins. When a shear pin is broken, the auger turns but stops as soon as it hits a load (snow). The shaft is turning, but there's no mechanical connection between the shaft and the auger.

The second thing is the belt either needs adjusting or replaced. Belt adjustments should be checked before every winter and are simple to preform. When checking the drive and auger belts, look for glazed running surfaces, and cracking. Either sign means the belt(s) need replacing. Also if the belt(s) have streched beyond their normal adjustment.

Both augers turn when not trying to clean snow,as soon as I try to use it and snow gets to the augers, only one auger moves on my ariens 520 snowblower

It sounds like the auger always turning is the auger engagement handle/line/connections are not adjusted correctly. They/it is too tight causing the auger to engage before it should. It may be up at the handle where you loosen a jam nut, screw in or out a threaded shaft, and retighten the jam nut. (If you have ever adjusted a bicycle brake it is similar.) (I have a craftsman, made by MTD, and I think I saw MTD also list Ariens.) Or it could be an adjustment somewhere else (but I'm not sure where).

As far as one auger moving and the other not, you may have a shear-pin (shear bolt as the manual calls them) on each side of the auger's shaft (my craftsman has one on each side), and the one on the side that stops turning is sheared off. (It moves without snow present due to the driveshaft inside the outer auger shaft turning, but it won't turn under load (snow).) You may confirm a sheared-pin by turning the machine off and try to turn the auger blade. If it turns somewhat easily, that's a bad shear pin. Remove the old shear pin. If the old one is as long as the new one, that aint the problem. The shear pin in the image is one kind. Mine appear as a straight bolt (no grooves), threaded the entire length. You will have to rotate the auger blade until it aligns with the hole in the shaft. Use a nail that fits and rotate the blade until the nail goes in. Remove the nail and screw in the shear bolt:

The auger clutch control up at the handle looks like this:
25398197-u3i4ko1tk2s0xlbbi4fvvtzj-2-2.png From my manual
Auger Control
  • To check the adjustment of the auger control, push forward the left hand clutch grip until the rubber bumper is compressed. There should be slack in the clutch cable.
  • Release the clutch grip. The cable should be straight. Make certain you can depress the auger control grip against the left handle completely.
  • If adjustment is necessary, loosen the hex jam nut and thread the cable in (for less slack) or out (for more slack). Recheck adjustment. Tighten the jam nut when correct adjustment is reached.
Here's another view of that:

I hope the above info helps you take care of both issues.

932 ariens shuts engine down as clutch is engaged to throw snow

Your problem would be in a safety shutdown switch.
some Ariens blowers have a two handed safety switch whitch is located on back of blower right lower side (inside of body)
You have to remove 4 transmission pan bolts to see it.
The other location is under the metal face plate between the handle bars.
Some of them have a third handel on right side of handle bars that has to be depressed to run auger .

Fix ariens snowblower 520 dies when engaging the auger lever

Your front end is jammed. Its either frozen or there is a rock or something jamming it up. Before you start engine reach down chute and turn back impeller that throws the snow out of blower. Should turn freely. when its free its fixed. You will probably need a new belt.

Snow thrower auger won't turn

One of the grip levers should engage a clutch that controls the augers. The other grip lever should engage a clutch to drive the wheels. Figure out which is which, and track the linkage from that lever down to the gearbox between the augers and the impeller. See if there's an adjustment you can make there.

If not... the gearbox may be damaged, possibly by hitting a solid object with hardened bolts in the place of your shear pins. ALWAYS use soft shear pins!

Auger does not engage on Ariens Model 924121 sno- Thro

first check shear pins in the auger ( try to turn big auger by hand, engine off)
then if they are good then try to turn impeller by hand, engine off
youll need to turn it a few times before the larger ones turn, but thats what you want
if they dont turn then you have sheared the gear box gears
be sure belts are good tooo

Honda hs55 when handle depressed blower fan moves at fast speedauger turns very slow.if auger makes contact with snow auger and blower fan stopsnew belt was installed no slippage of belt present

I suspect that all is needed is a little adjustment of the rod attached to the handle, which hooks on a lever at the bottom of the snow blower drive axle case. Try adjusting the nut two turns, that will pull the rod a little bit more and engage the rubber faced drive wheel, giving it a snugger connection. If this has been checked or still does not help, then I would check inside the case where the drive axle is located. There is a rubber faced drive wheel (as noted above), that runs against a smooth flat metal pulley. The rubber on the drive wheel could be worn out and not engaging properly. I would also check on the front of the case where you installed new belts to make sure that the brake shoe puck that connects to the auger pulley is not binding or perhaps has flipped out of its normal location.

Only one blade turns automatically on Ariens snow blower.

There is a bolt that goes through the center of the shaft that shears off if you hit something. You will need to line up the holes of the internal shaft with the auger tube and install a new bolt.

I have a ariens snow blower model 1128 when i engage the impeller turns and the shaft to the auger gear box turns but the augers don't turn. the shear bolts are not broke either

Have you confirmed the bolt integrity completely through the shaft? Also check the gearbox for proper lubrication or gear failure.

I recommend contacting your nearest authorized service center, or you can download operators and service manuals typically online by performing a simple Google search using your make, model number and part needed.
