SOURCE: Washing Machine smell

The problem comes from the design of the front load washers. There is always a little water left in the tub after the machine is used. Running a bleach load will deal with the mildew until the machine is used again. I leave the door open when I am not using my washer, and this does help.

Dyson dc18 smells like dirty dog

I would clean the filter and let it dry completely for 24 hours. if you put the filter in wet and the run the vacuum the moisture well go in to the cyclone and the dirt would attach to it causing a snowball effect if you will, causing the vacuum to build up with debris and to smell. so clean out that filter really well and let it dry really well then try it out. if it still smells then i would replace the cyclone. they run anywhere around $80.

The washing smells of dirty water, have tried all sorts, but cannot get rid of the smell.

    Several things to try:

Check the empty pump filter, that may be clogged with smelly debris
Ensure that the empty pipe is correctly inserted into the drain pipe and that there is a trap on the drain that stops smells coming back
Finally (This may sound odd) with no clothing in the machine, throw 3 dishwasher tablets in the drum and run it through the hottest cycle the machine can run. Smells can often be bacterial caused by biological washing powder which builds up bugs in the machine. Dishwasher tablets are anti-bacterial and will kill the bugs.

Would the stainless steel make the inside of the dishwasher smell awful when half full of dirty dishes after only 2 days? I noticed under the screen on bottom of tub that not all the water completely...

stainless steel will not smell or rust that why its used, the cause of the smell is twofold 1 dirty dishes should not be left unwashed in the machine to long a bectearia starts to grow within a couple of hours and starts the smell process,2the filter system at the bottom of the machine should be checked everyday [heavy user]light use every [2/3 days],the screen at the bottom of the machine is the filters, some models do leave some water in the bottom.adrian,,,,,

You can use Affresh to clean your front loader. Deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. Try this product, it works great on all front loaders. Use very hot water with the Affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle. Also helps with any stagnant water smells. Put the Affresh pellet inside the machine, not in the soap dispenser.

    Dishwasher smells like fish

    There are several possible causes.

First, make sure the machine is properly installed with the drain hose up in a loop or an air gap before going down to the drain. This is to ensure no dirty water or smells from the sour or garbage disposer backs up into the machine.

Sometimes nasty stuff gets trapped inside internal parts of the machine and inside the sprayer arms. It is normally easy to remove the sprayer arms for cleaning, on reasonably modern Bosch machines they can also be opened up for easy access.

There are also special dishwasher cleaning agents that you can use to perform periodic cleaning cycles. Some believe it is important to use rinse agents to minimize the problem, maybe it is worth trying if you don't use it.

If there is warranty left on the machine I would advise you to complain, there is a slight possibility there is something wrong in the machine for instance bad choice of insulation lining that have been known to emit foul smells.

Good luck with tracking down the cause of this!

Nasty water accumulation from washing machine

Posted by Jay on Jan 11 2009

I have the same washer now for several years now. I keep getting the smell now and then. After reading all these disappointed people I went down to the machine and cleaned out the "Pump filter". It had been smelling today, I was tired of this problem also. So i opened the little door at the bottom front left corner. There you find a little black hose, pull it out a little and pull the plug. There you drain the water that's laying inside smelling up the house. Now you un-screw the big black cap. Once you remove the cap, you find a plastic filter-catcher. I found paper, a dime, and several other things that came out of my pockets. You can take the basket to the sink and wash it out. Put it back together and try checking it in one month. Also I used some needle nose pliers to clean the nasty stuff around the gasket. At the bottom of gasket try pulling it back to get to the hair and ****. We have a dog, so the hair is bad.
