Open Question

Yamaha dx7 synthesizer now has new battery. Presets re-loaded from laptop - a couple of voices work, the rest not. Any ideas?

Sorry - this shouldn't be here. fixya decides (wrongly) for itself where the question should be... not my choice!

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

SOURCE: pushed to many buttons

Try powering up the synth, then press and hold the EDIT, 16, & 32 keys (so you end up with all three buttons pressed). I think this will reset it.

When I turn on my Yamaha mo8 88 key music production synthesizer, it will start to turn on but as soon as the files begin to load, it just turns back off.Help?

I would bet on a failing power supply since the mere act of loading your files is causing it to shut down.

However, there is likely no circuit info accessible to us, you are stuck with Yamaha service and not knowing where you are located, advice is not possible.

Good luck-

Station presets are lost on power off

take a look inside the unit for any type of removable battery. Usually it looks like a watch battery. When this battery dies, the unit can not remember presets. Pull the battery & swap it with a matching new one, and your presets will work again.

Go to Click on 14 Battery Change which is a walkthrough. You will; have to do a sysex data dump to restore the sounds. All that info should be on that site as well as some other great stuff. Hope this helps.

Connecting a yamaha s90 synthesizer to usb computer

A little late for the original poster, but this answer may help someone else.

On the S90, press the "Utility" button then press the "F5" button under the display. Make sure MIDI IN/OUT is set to "USB" (using the DEC/NO and INC/YES buttons under the jog wheel). The factory default is "MIDI" which means no computer could detect it.
Once you've done this, install the S90 USB driver on the PC then plug in the USB cable. The PC should detect the S90 and you should get a new item in your windows control panel where you can set MIDI I/O and channels.
