CRT? - could be bad tube. LCD? all kinds of possibilities. Could be a bad video card in your PC, one way to check is if you have another monitor to try - if it works, the problem is in your (first) monitor, if it does not, your video card is probably shot, or would need new drivers. Tough to install without a second machine. When buying a new card, make sure you get one that is at least as good as the one you had (e.g. e-geforce fx 256MB 5500 works good for most applications, if you have more memory than 256MB on existing card, get that...)

Black screen no cursor no keyboard use

When you powered on the machine did you hear any beeps, hear the fan running, the disk drive running, lights blinking, hear the cd drive click, see the light on the cd drive door for a second or two when it clicks? If these things are happening you are getting power. If not, your problem might be with your power supply, hard drive or motherboard. Remove the power cord, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and press the power button. if it boots you had a static charge. If you get nothing at all but a silent system your power supply is bad. If it sounds like your computer is running but you can't see anything on the screen you might have a problem with your screen or video card. If you have another monitor try using it and see what happens. if it works so you can see things then your monitor was bad. If it does not work with another monitor but you still hear fans, and see lights and hear the disk drive spinning, then your video card is probably bad.

Basic Computer Troubleshooting

Nothing happens at all when I press the power button.
  1. Unplug the computer and wait 10 minutes for the power supply to reset. Try again
  2. Plug something else into the outlet/power strip to ensure it has power
  3. No lights and no sound - This is just the power supply, If you aren't comfortable replaceing it, take it to your computer store.
  4. Lights come on, but no sounds. - This is commonly the power supply has lost some of the voltages, and needs replaced
  5. Lights come on, hear hard drive sounds, but no monitor - This is commonly bad monitor or video card. Try another monitor, if that doens't work, try another video card.

I can hear the sounds for start up but the light on the monitor is flashing. Have checked all wires, restarted pc and still just a black screen while the green light blinks. HELP :(

Try to shutdown the pc, then unplug the monitor from the power source, leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds, then plug it back, power it on and power on the pc.

If you can, try the monitor with another pc. If it works, it's a video card problem. If it doesn't work, it's the monitor proble. If you have another monitor, you can try it with you pc to solve every doubt, if it works then the monitor is dead.

My converter does nothing,power light is on,but no picture,nosignals,nothing.what's wrong;

If, when you first turn on the power, you hear the hard drive spinning or possibly a beep, see any of the other lights briefly flash, or passably hear the fan start then the likely cause is the video.

  1. Check that the video cable is securely screwed into the computer
  2. Check the video cable going into the monitor too. Some manufactures have removable cables on their monitors.
  3. Be sure that the monitor has power, most monitor power switches have indicator lights either built-in the switch or near to the switch. Generally it's green
  4. Try your monitor on a friend's computer to make sure it works. Or you could try or your friends monitor on your computer too.

If it's not your monitor it could be your video card.

a) TURN OFF THE SWITCH AND REMOVE THE POWER CORD (either from the computer or the wall).

b) Open the case and reseat the card. That means that you will have to remove the video cable, remove the screw that holds the card in place. Pull up "gently but firmly"

c) Once the card comes out carefully reinstall the card into the same slot. Use your eyes to be sure it's lined up squarely and push it in. It should be clear to you when it's seated. It might take slight wiggle to get it in, this is normal.

d) Put the securing screw back in, close the case up and reconnect all cables and the power.

If on the other hand when you turn on the power switch you don't hear any or see any other lights. The first suspect would be the Power Supply. Replacing a power supply is easy enough on most machines, The problem is that getting the correct Power Supply can be tricky. There are a few types and some manufactures have made it so that only that manufacture

When i power on my pc,the monitor power indicator lights green but about 3s later it goes brown.the monitor screen remains unchanged as to when the computer was powered email is...

You are not getting a video signal to the monitor. The fact that it is green initially shows it's working. When it turns orange, that's an indicator that it is getting no signal from the computer. So the next thing to check is if your computer is actually booting up or if your video card is going bad.
Do you normally hear a beep when the computer starts? Do you hear it now? If the answer is yes and no, then your computer is not starting up. To troubleshoot, I would suggest opening the case and disconnecting everything but the video, CPU, and memory. See if it starts. (you should get a message about no boot device if this happens)
If still no video, you have a hardware problem most probably related to the video card.
