Question about Friedrich Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have a Friedrich Model KS10E10-A 1000 BTU wall unit. Lately it's dripping water from the front radiator of the unit. I don't know why. Can you let me know if I will need a new unit. It's cooling fine only for the water dripping. Kindly let me know. Thanks. John T. Xenis

AC units work similar to dehumidifiers, and remove moisture from the air, the moisture drains into the bottom of the AC unit. The AC unit should be sloped slightly downward on the outside so that the water runs outside rather that inside.

Check for appropriate slope and check to see if the drain holes on the outside are clogged.. There is a drain kit available for your unit.

Some corrosion or dirt in the bottom pan has caused water to leak out in front. It can be sealed with a silicon sealant after drying and cleaning. Also try to tilt it backwards in its frame to assist draining toward the outside.

The friedrich name was taken off of units in the 80's when the climatemaster name was invented. My guess is 42000 btu or 3.5 tons rated capacity

I have an older Friedrich- maybe 8-10 years. It drips so much water that it needs a towel underneath, which becomes soaked. The filter, which I removed, has fallen apart. I ordered a new filter which I...

If this is a window or thru the wall unit, the problem you're having is caused by 2 things.

1. The drip pan's drain hole near and under the rear of the unit is clogged and needs to be cleared.

2. The rear of the unit is not tilted down enough. 1/4" to 1/2" is the general rule of thumb. This allows the water in the drain pan to flow to the rear of the pan, where the drain hole is located.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I do not know if this is a problem or not, but I hear water bubbling in the air conditioner when it turns on and off. It is more pronounced when it turns off. When I say bubbling, I don't think it is...

That's normal. It's the condensation that the unit collected dripping into the drain pan. Just make sure that the drain hole in the drip pan is not clogged. And if it's a window unit, that the outside part of the unit is tilted down 1/4".

Why is there no drain hole for condesation to drip out?

Some of the Friedrich units will drip out in the back of the unit. There may be just a small bend in the base of the unit allowing a certain amount of draining just behind the rear coil. Most units require some water to remain in the back of the unit to help cool the unit off. This is why tilting in the window is important. Be sure not to tilt it too much or too much water will drain, causing the unit to overheat. Be sure to tilt it enough to where the water can drain properly or the water may drain in the house, down the wall.

Dripping inside! The unit is also dripping outside (as I guess it should) but now has started dripping inside after about a half hour's use. The angle of the unit has not changed. Could there be a clog...

The base of the unit is like a tray which collects all the condensation water. At the back of the unit (the part that normally sticks out the wall/window) there is a small tube where the water comes out. It is possible that this hole is blocked up with dust that the unit has drawn in and once it gets wet will block the water run off tube or pipe that can be fitted to it. If this tube is not cleared the tray will fill up and over flow everywhere. Hope this helps you.

Dripping air conditoner

The "drip pan" is actually the entire base srround of the unit. There are two critical things you must confirm 1) is the unit angled back to the outside(you need water to flow away from the inside) and 2) there may be a plug/obstruction in the outer casing where the water is intended to drain from. You should check to see if either or both of these conditions exsist.

I used to be a "Factory Authorized" person, and I bet Friedrich would rather do a warranty call than have you return the machine for a refund. Phone them to see if they are cooperative. When the tech gets there, you can ask ALL your questions and point out every little sticky thing. That's his job!

The tech will be able to get parts and know how to adjust things.

For the second person, you have to look into the space where the fan is hitting something. A mirror and a flashlight will be needed. I kind of get a feeling the water isn't draining fast enough. Look for a plastic tube from the front water pan to the rear water pan. They get plugged up.

Wall unit leaking water in the front

The problem is in the lines that run from indoor to outdoor unit.
You need to make sure all lines are slightly sloping towards outdoor unit
