Replaced internal pump. Color coded hoses for replacement. Marker has worn off hoses. Need proper routing of hoses from clean water tank, to heater to spray nozzles. An internal schematic of hose routing is preferred.

OK...got my hoses attached in the right place after talking to a local Bissell technician. Need to work on routing the properly so the housing assembly will fit flush with the base assembly.

But...one other question...how do I get the auto-mix knob to line up properly with the auto-mix piston?

    Thx.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please remove the top cover of your Bissell cleaner. Now place the Auto-Mix selector knob to the water only position. Turn the cover over. You will notice an angle on the top of the piston. This will fit between a couple of plastic ridges on the top cover by the selector screw.
Now angle the piston slightly forward and engage the angled cut in the top of the piston with the screw thread and pull back. Turn the screw to the high traffic position and replace the cover. Apply a very little amount of silicon grease around the Auto-Mix piston 'O' ring, it will ease the re- installation of the cover.

You can also see this manual for more detailed instructions--

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Hi there,

You need to tell us make and model, and possibly model number, so that we can look for a diagram.

Thanks.

WATER WILL NOT COME OUT

Make sure there is liquid in both the Tank-in-Tank and the SmartMix Bottle and check for spray through the upholstery hose. If the hose does not spray please check the following:

- Remove the belt access door and inspect the pump belt to ensure it is not broken, worn or stretched. You may also check the belt by turning on the power and watching the brush on the bottom of the machine. If the brush rotates the belt is not broken.

- Check for proper placement of the o-ring on the SmartMix Cap Insert (some o-rings are detachable and need to fit over the straw; others are molded to the cap).

- Check for liquid in the base of the machine where the SmartMix Bottle sits (SmartMix Reservoir). If there is no liquid in the reservoir, the neck on the SmartMix Bottle may be undersized, the cap will not make proper contact with the unit and the smart mix bottle will need to be replaced.

- Check for the black or red tank gasket on the SmartMix Bottle Cap and on the bottom of the Tank-in-Tank Assembly. If gasket is lodged in base of unit or has been lost, reattach gasket on auto-load or order new gasket if appropriate.

- Check the valves on the bottoms of the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle to make sure water/solution will come through when the "x" valve is depressed. Bladder or SmartMix bottle may be empty or the valve may be blocked internally.

- Check if the small rounded window tabs on the top edge of the Floor Nozzle Window are locked in their mating slots on the base of the machine and not inadvertently lifting the tank up out of place.

  • check pump belt
  • seat tank properly
  • check tank filter
i have repaired many of these and found that 90% of the time its the pump! #41 on diagram < click

9% its the heater clogged up #65 on diagram < click

1st check the small problems i wrote above

if all else seems fine start by removing the heater and disconnect the hoses from it. blow through one end of the heater (should be no restriction)

Soap or water will not come out

Several things can cause this.

First thing, I check to see if water is coming out the attachment hose. If it is coming out the hose and not the bottom, most likely you have a clogged heater. The heater is located inside the lower handle and just needs to be taken apart and cleaned out. Fairly simple repair, and it is common.

If it sprays for just a few seconds when you first turn it on and then stops, that's a classic sign of a bad pump, and it will need to be replaced.

If it isn't pumping at all out of both the bottom or the hose, there a few simple things to check. Make sure there is fluid in both tanks. It will not work with one of the tanks empty. Make sure the flat belt isn't broken( there is an access panel on the side of the unit to ger to the belt). The flat belt runs the pump. Both of the tanks have a round rubber gasket that wraps around the valve and they tend to come off and get stuck in the inlet valve of the machine. It just needs to be put back on the tank.

There are numerous reasons why this machine might not pump, but these are a few of the most common ones.

Good Luck

Bissell Pump Weak?

Often times I see the pumps clogged with soap when acting like you described. This can cause a pump to be weak. Pressure builds up whe you stop squirting water but tapers off quickly. A few times I've been able to get water flowing good but most times have to replace the pump.

Bissell 7920 Not Spraying Anymore

Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn't squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can't spray, just refasten it down.

Water Tank

There is a heating element much like a radiator inside the handle unit that is clogged. The water travels from the tank thru the heater and back down to the jets. You'll need to take the heater apart to clean it. You may need to check the hoses to and from the water pump also.
