If the marks look like brushstokes all over the page, then it most likely needs a drum GPR-6. Black marks can be caused by a dirty **** glass (the thin one) as well. the easyest way to tell is if the black lines are only on copies that went through the feeder and not on print jobs, faxes,or copies made off the glass then the **** glass needs cleaned.

I am getting gray background when printing pictures why?

Can you see the entire page when you issue the PRINT command. Are you using Windows. If you are trying to print a picture from a website, you firstly need to take a snapshot of the entire page by holding down the left ALT key and pressing the key marked PrintScreen (usually located below F10,11,12) on your keyboard. Then use an Image editor to cut out the picture and then PRINT it.

Sorry my printer is a Canon MF8180C laser and I could not find any information in what you provided to solve the blck marks around the edges of the page

Are the black marks down both sides of the page and if so what shape are they? Are they a sharp edge black mark or faint feathered mark?
You say the black marks are around the edges of the page, does that mean all 4 edges?
Also is it when you print from your computer or when you copy using the document feeder?
There are 3 possible causes but I need to know the answers to my questions.

When I fax multiple pages, they have a black strip down the entire page

Lift the scanner cover and you will see a see-through piece of glass or plastic on the left hand side, this is the section it uses to scan from the Automatic document feeder. Make sure this is clear and free from marks or it will affect the result of multiple document scanning or faxing.
Hope this helps, if so please rate my response. Thank you for supporting the FixYa Community

I have a soild black line about 1/2 thick on the right side of the entire page. Why?

Locate and check the printer drum. You should be able to see the mark that is causing the line on your page. It could be s scratch or a ring of toner that the wiper is not picking up because a nick or something under it. Try cleaning the drum with a very soft dry cloth and inspect it again. If the mark is still there the drum will have to be replaced. Do Not Try To Clean The Drum With Any Type Of Solvent!

BLACK MARKS ON PAGE

if the black marks are in teh same place every time and you are putting teh page on the exsposure glass give the galss a clean as there could be some ink or dirt on it .. if the marks are moving across the page it could be down to the drum being marked or if he marks are spaced a bit wider it could be the fuser has a mark on it check these as well.. if the mark is a line look at where the paper goes through the document feeder check the thin **** glass it passes over to make sure there isnt any tipex or ink left on it.. all the glass can be cleaned with regular glass cleaner and a soft cloth

Problem with using the printer copy feature

Please make sure you are positioning the page to be copied on the scanner bed correctly. There is usually one corner of the scanner where you should place the page.

Most scanners mark the "home" corner with either some obvious tic marks or even painted arrows.
