Hi,
Sorry there is no hidden recovery partition on the HDD, you should have got a recovery disk with the operating system on and also a driver and utility CD.
Have you got these CD's?

Dell can actually send you out a copy of the recovery cd's if your computer is no longer under warranty for about $20 shipped. If your computer is under warranty then they would send you out a new hard drive but make sure you ask them to send you the recovery cds with it. I have done this exact thing several times.

From you bios screen when your system just starts up there is a option f10 for system restore, Dell does have a partition on all there drives as I have this laptop, Now if this partition has got blown away then you need to call dell and have them send you out another hard drive with the factory image at this point.

They will not send out operating system disk they will send out a image of what was on that hard drive.

Thanks

Factory Restore

Try F9 during boot.. I doubt you repartitioned that small partition when you reformatted the main partition of the drive. Then again, the F9 function might not work anymore, even though the partition is still intact.. From Asus Support:
Using the Recovery Partition(on selected models)
1. Press < F9 > during bootup.
2. Press [Enter] to select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].
3. Select the language you want to recover and click Next.
4. Read the ASUS Preload Wizard messages and click Next.
5. Select a partition option and click Next. Partition options:
Recover Windows to first partition only.
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (25%) and "D" (75%).
6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.

Why does the HD on my IBM 3400x have a sticker on it that says 36G but the op sys thinks there is only 16G?

Good day!try to look up your HD inside..you can see if its true..if its true and op sys thinks 16G..then mybe there is an unallocated drive remains when partitioning is done..if its unallocated then..you can go to my computer and right click on it..click manage..and there you can see your missing space..or use a partition magic..

I have a acer 5610 i dont have the start-up disk, id like it to be like new, can you help me.

go buy a new op sys cd or order the restore cd online. you can setup fresh with any windows cd and go online and get the rest of the drivers but you may lose everything on it unless you are experienced in setting up a new op sys. if you opt to do it that way just dont delete the partition or format anything and you will have a new op sys with all your stuff right where it was.

I have an Acer Aspire 5003, having a problem recover the HD. I deleted the partitions on the HD, now I can not restore from the backup CD's, any suggestions? When I run the recovery SW, I get one of two...

I'm not sure if this model has a hard drive test feature in the BIOS but it sounds like there may be a HD problem so the first thing is to run a diagnostic on it.

Safe mode....unsafe.

Your PC is stuck in safe mode startup

I would suggest using the Windows Disk, if you have one, go through normal windows installation. At the point of installation just after pressing F8 it will detect windows exists and offer you a repair option press R to repair

Recovery partition - repair

You have obviously deleted the partition that the laptop could recover from but usually if you are supplied a cd to recover windows, there is normally a drivers folder within the cd but not the aplications, such as anti virus although these are only for a trial period. for things like microsoft works if supplied, are normally on a seperate cd. Without knowledge of your partition software, you should be able to partition the HDD and then copy the files from one drive to another, but the restore may not work as the system files may not weave together when you come to restore. I would imagine it's only the drivers that's youre main concern, which you can install from your other laptop.
