A rough estimate is that you have about 10,500 gallons of water depending on how full you have your pool

This translates to about 200-250 pounds of salt

To be certain get a salt test kit ( costs about 11 dollars for 10 tests )
you want to be as close to 3000ppm as possible

Much more and you will taste a lot of salt less than 2500ppm and your unit will not generate enough chlorine

Start with 200 pounds spreading it around the pool. Now brush it around to partially disolve.
Most important now is to filter/circulate the water for 24 hours before checking the ppm

Although it may look disolved after a few hours it is NOT

if after checking if your salt ppm is not where I told you add 15 pounds at a time until it comes up or drain 2-4 inches and add fresh water to bring it down repeat as needed to reach 3000ppm

Now you can start producing chlorine

Remeber though contrary to the directions for intex the total hours of run time depend on # of swimmers how hot it was that day, rain, and sun light. You should start with the average in the book but adjust to what works for your swimming habits and weather

Good luck

I have a 18x48 5,500 gallons. The manual is confusing me. After connecting the saltwater system now it says to run the pump after adding salt, then turn the system on.

I think what its saying is simply to ensure proper dissolving of total salt in pool circulate the water in pool for 24 hrs before applying power to salt cell this ensures that salt doesn't bunch up in one place and cause a myriad of false alarms on unit

Pump goes into sleep mode because of low salt light. I have added 240 pounds of salt since the light came on and fell that I may be haveing other problems. Would it be normal to have to add that much salt...

No more salt for now!!!!! 1st thing you need to do is check your salt ppm.. must be around 3000ppm.. The 8110 models have issues with their cells that will continue to give you a low salt reading regardless of the salt level.. You must check the cell for calcium build up and clean.. You can soak with vinegar or as others recommend, muriatic acid to clean the cells. Pressure flush to get all the "White Flaky" stuff out.. Dirty cells WILL give you a low salt error on the unit.. If after cleaning the cells you still get this code, you may have a bad cell.. If you are just starting out and the unit is new, YES you will probably add over 300 lbs of salt to get you going and be around 3000ppm on a 14000 gallon pool... Be sure to run your pump only for 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt and then set your cycle...
Hope this helps...

I have added salt due to constant low salt warning. I have been brushing and running pump. It appears to be on a 6 hr cycle as 06 shows up when turned on. It also goes into sleep mode. Test strips show...

Way too high on the salt.. about 5000 to 7000 ppm. You should be around 2000 to 3000 ppm or 5.6 to 6.6... I had the same issue with my system and it's always the cell..Look inside the cell and if you can see white stuff inside, it needs to to be cleaned... The manual states to soak with vinegar for 6hrs.. I soak mine for 24, flush and soak again for 6hrs and flush again.. Comes our clean.. and the low salt alarm goes away until the next time the cell gets dirty with the white buildup... You can add an additive made by hth called "Cell Saver"..Prolongs the cleaning cycle... After you clean the cell and your filter, change your chlorinator cycle to 10 hrs with your pump to run 11 to12 until the pool clears and then lower to maintain the proper chlorine level.. Good luck and hopes this works for you.....

I have done everything the manual says, but my saltwater system will not stop blinking error code 91. The salt level is fine, and the cell is clean. Do I need to replace the cell. My pool is now green and...

Bummer!!! Looks like you checked both things that would cause the code 91 error for "Low Salt". Here's what I've done to solve my low salt "91 code in the past.. I overshoot by 1/2 bag = 20lbs of the recommended salt add quantity when the code appears. Calculate by using this formula..
.0067 X Pool Gallons. I have a 14,000 gallon pool and when I get the 91 code for low salt, I add about 110 lbs of salt. Manual says 93 lbs...let it circulate for 24 hours by running the pump only and then start the chlorination cycle.. Before doing this, you MUST make sure the cell in clean.. If any calcium buildup inside, it can give you a false "Low Salt" alarm.

I hope this helps!!

If this helps, please rate... Thanks

Brand new! Never had a pool before. I find no instructions in the manual for adding salt. We bought salt and on the bag it said to add to skimmer. When we did it stopped up the filter immediately upon...

Spread around the edge of pool with a cup. Make sure it's pool salt and not rock salt or pellets. Will take some time to do, large pools will take up to 350 lbs of salt and careful not to get into eyes. Run pump only for 24 hours to properly dissolve and then you can program your unit. If large pool, start at 10 to 12 hours pump with 8 to 10 hours chlorinating.Check daily for chlorine level and adjust from there... Good luck!

I have forgotten how to set my salt water system to initially chlorinate the water after i added the salt. It keeps beeping and the code says no salt is detected.

Could be a couple of things. Have you put the right amount of salt in according to the tables (I find I always have to add a bit more then the tables say). Have you let the salt mix completly by stirring up any salt laying on the bottom of the pool and by running the pump for at least 24 hours before turning on the salt generator. Depending on how large the pool is you may need more than 24 hours before turning on the salt generator. If still doesnt work than you can try adding more salt a little bit at a time over a couple of days. Also check to see if the electrolytic plates need cleaning. Unscrew the large grey connector to the left of where the wire goes into the sensor and look inside the unit on the left)

Constant code 91! after only 1 week my first chlorinator was replaced due to this code. Have been using my replacement for approx 2.5 weeks and got my first code 91 - added 1 bag of high purity pool salt...

A few things to do or you will create your own problems.

First and for most you must filter for at least 12 hours after adding salt to distribute the salt completly

You can not just blindly ad salt like you said you added a bag.

Although the manuals have an amount of salt for different size pools it is just a starting point. It is up to you tp fine tune

you must get a salt test kit
the kind that reads #'s not color

Get your salt as close to 3000ppm as possible
any lower than 2700 and you will get a low salt alarm and you will also not be producing enough chlorine
any higher than 3500 and you can go cloudy, trigger high alarm, and the water will taste nasty
you can even trigger low salt with too much salt content
So remember 3000ppm

If you are higher than the 3500 then drain 20% water and fill with fresh
continue this until you get to close to 3000

If low follow directions for low salt either on the test directions or bag of salt

I have had my system for this being the 4th season and have never cleaned the cells

any way, when you get the pool to around 3000 filter only for about 12 hours then turn on your generator

It should work fine

Registering low salt

your pool has approximately 12,500 gallons of water
this calls for about 310 pounds of salt.
One of your problems can be the acis rain ate away at your salt content
You really need to get aalt test strip kit the kind that reads #'s not the colored strips
Get you salt to as close to 3000ppm as possible to low towards 2700 will throw off the alarm and also to high around 3800 and up will alarm also.
It is also possible to have to much salt and the unit will read 91

Get the pool to 3000ppm either by draining 20% or so and adding fresh water or adding salt which with your amount so far I am thinking you will need to lower it

Run filter only to thouroughly mix the pool for at least 24 hours before trying to generate chlorine.
In the meantime also take your electro cell and soak it in vinegar for 4-6 hours rinse well and put it back together

I have an itex easy set 16' by 36" pool with an automatic salt water system and I lost the owners manual so I do not know how much salt to add. I also live out of town and use well water and I've heard I...

with well water you need to ad a metal reducer whatever your local pool shop carries and initially shock your pool before you try starting up your system be sure to filter for at least 24 hours after adding your salt and trying to generate chlorine

Also here is a link to find your recommended amount of salt 16x36 will have different amounts of water if it is a blow up ring pool and a straight up wall look at the manuals in this link

Low salt indicator

high concentration? Salt is salt except for the fact in aq pool you want 98% pure and it must not be iodized salt
Also before generating salt with the timer you must have the right amount of salt
the #'s in the manual are just guidelines
get a salt test kit and get your pool to 3000ppm you need to filter only 24 hours or so getting to the 3000ppm wheather you ad salt or need to drain water and ad fresh none the less get it to 3000ppm
Now worry about your chlorine level if it is to high leave alone until it comes down if too low then run the generator for a few hours if it does not show on the scale at all try 4-6 hours
you will get a knack for the amount of time you need for your chlorine situation

if once all of this is set right and you still get high reading on salt unit take it apart as directed and spray it out with the garden hose
it is really simple only 4 screws
