  • mahsanders Jul 30, 2009

I have the new USB cable and I am still having the same problem. It now says it cannot locate the software. Did software come with the driver? I did not install this, our computer guy did. What if I cannot locate any information that he gave us with the driver? Can I get the software from the website?

If the drive is not showing first try a different USB cable and then check if the drive will be detected , but if still not detected try connecting the drive on a different computer to isolate the problem.. but if still not detected on a different computer this is already a hardware problem and the drive is already bad....

Did you try the drive on some other computer? Might be the data cable connecting the drive to your computer has gone bad. Also check in device manager if you see your drive listed there?

Is it an external USB drive or the internal one? If it is the internal one check in your BIOS if it is getting detected or not?

The USB ones are usually the external ones. In case the hard disk is hosted inside your computer casing and connected to your computer using 2 cables (1 power cable and another data cable) then it is the internal one. Your seems to be external one. Is there any power indicator light on your hard disk and is it litting up when you connect it to your computer?

Blue light indicates that the power cord is okay, try replacing the USB cord and then check.

You may check their catalogue. You may also try connecting the drive to some other USB port on your computer. Also did it work when you tried it on some other computer?

Do you see the drive in device manager or in disc management?

Check those places from computer management, to get to computer management right click on your my computer icon or "computer" which you will find from your desktop or from start menu. then right click and select manage.

on device manager look for any ? marks and on disc management see if your disc is there.

Hard Drive Crash - wants to re-install how to retrieve data to laptop computer

If the HDD has failed you can't retrieve the data off the failed drive. You can send the HDD into a data recovery company and they will read the disk in the drive and put the info on DVD and sent it to you, but that is the only way. The service is quite expensive. Just do a google search for failed hard drive data recovery.

Could I retrieve data from my hard drive of my broken Ps3?

Yes. You will have to hook the hard drive up as a slave on a computer. Then just copy your data to your computer.

How to retrieve a file ? (shift delete)

If your motherboard or computer has crashed and you need to retrieve data you can remove the hard drive and hook it up to a portable USB hard drive adapter. Available most computer stores. Set the hard drive to Primary if it is ATA. Hook it up to the hard drive and plug the USB into a working computer. Open "MY Computer" and you will see the new drive on the list. You can now access the files on the drive just they were on a floppy or CD.

Well take the back cover off the laptop itself and retrieve the hard drive- then simply connect that to another computer and take files from there on to a external hard drive :)

My laptop is broken and i need to retrieve my photo albums. how can i do this

You will need to have someone pull the hard drive out of the laptop and extract the data from it. Chances are the data is still fine and can be retrieved. Your best bet is to find a local mom and pop type shop that can do this for you.

Bad hard drive back up and replace on evesham ebox

The only thing I can think of is you might hook up the drive as "slave" drive on a working computer and see if it will operate long enough to retrieve your data. But if the drive is dead you may have lost everything that was on it. There are services that do data recovery on dead hard drives but I'm sure it is expensive to have this done. This is why I always back up everything I do to a different device while I am working.

Have you looked both in Device Manager and in Disk Management?
Have you tried plugging your external hard drive into another computer?
If it isn't recognized on multiple computers, then you are probably experiencing a hardware failure.
There are a variety of things that can malfunction on your external hard drive:

1) The USB cable - Have you tried switching the USB cable?
2) The external hard drive casing
3)  The hard drive itself

If your hard drive casing has malfunctioned, then retrieving your data is as simple as putting the hard drive inside another hard drive enclosure.  Hard drive enclosures are available at any local computer store, and also available on our website.  Make sure to get the right size enclosure.  The I250HD35 has a 3.5" Hard Drive inside it, which is a standard desktop hard drive.

If you put your hard drive in another enclosure and it still won't show up on any of your computers, then your best bet at retrieving your data is to contact a data recovery specialist.   After you have retrieved your data, we will replace your unit if you are still within the warranty period. For specific warranty and replacement information, go to www.iomagic.com and click on Support.

Have a nice day,
