It could be a number of things causing that to happen. Without seeing it my initial guess would be either a loose connection to the video/ graphics card or dust is blocking a fan or other area!

SOURCE: Monitor goes into sleep mode after a few seconds

This is normaly cause by incorrect power management settings.

check power management setting in both windows and your computers bios

you will not need to worry about the power management settings of the bios when an operating system such as windows is loaded.

SOURCE: Samsung SyncMaster 710N Monitor SLEEP MODE

Hello,

The monitor is not going to sleep the power supply board is shutting down. If you can solder you should be able to repair the monitor yourself. The problem is caused by blown capacitors on the power board. Go to our web site at : www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm We have pictures of what to look for. Open your monitor and look at the power supply board for any blown capacitors, replace all that you find. The replacement parts can be ordered from several places on the internet or we can supply them for you. The replacement parts will need to be high temp and will be marked 105c. The values you need to get will be marked on the sides of the ones you take out but will be something like 220uf, 470uf, or 1000uf etc. and then a voltage rating. When you install the new ones be sure to insert them with the polarity stripe going the same direction as the old ones come out. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 plus return shipping. If you have any questions just let us know

I hope this helps if so please rate our solution.

My monitor seems to be stuck in sleep mode

This happens when there is no communication with video card. Check cables, re-seat video card, make sure monitor is set to correct mode. VGA (15pin blue), DVI (white), or HDMI.

Dell 4700 sleep on bootup

ok here's what i can suggest. Two things.
1. Check your power settings by going to the Control Panel and then going to Power Options. Take a look at the power schemes..specifically the option where it says turn of monitor...you can select the "Always On" power scheme....if this doesn't do it...
2. Right click on your desktop and click on Properties. Go to the Screen Savers and verify that the time before the screensaver comes on is not something ridiculous like 1 minute. You can just disable the screensaver if you'd like by selecting "none"..

I'm pretty sure you're dealing with one of those two problems.

When the computer is turned on the monitor goes to sleep mode

Go to safe mode, select boot in vga mode.

If this allows you to start,

Click start,Run type desk.cpl
Screen Saver tab | click on Energy
Under desk or office settings frame, set all values to "never".
Then click
Advanced Options, you'll see a frame asking you what to do.
Just select the options to turn off sleep mode.
check that out.

If you can't start this way,you need to try another monitor to change the setting above.
