Here's what happens. After it closes, it opens back up after a few seconds. I have to push the tray closed a certain way to get it to stay closed. The open/close button doesn't work to close the CD tray unless I lift it up, even though you can hear the motor trying to close it. Even when I do lift it up and it closes, it reopens after a few seconds.

Seems like the Timingfor the Tray Open / close has got disturebed. Could be a bad drive gear, or as simple as a loose Drive belt. Get it checked by a professional.

This sounds like the child lock has been inadvertently activated . Look through the manual to find the key combination to unlock it.

gently push the cd door back in while pushing the door closed button , untill it closes if it still comes out then the cd laser mechanism is not lifting or something else has happened , then it will need to be tested to determine the exact cause

My 360 is/was having a similar problem...my 360 would say "reading disc" then "open tray". Well since my system is only about 8 months old...I opted to send it in for repair. Its under warranty. My system is in route to be fixed as we speak. I would advise you to get yours registered too.
