Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

(I have a Whirlpool Duet Sport) I cannot get the door locking mechanism to unlock the door no matter what I do. I just tried unplugging it for 45 minutes to see if I could reset the CPU(?) but I plugged it back in no change.

Hey thank you for that response, sounds like like some good advice.

The plot thickens a bit - my wife informs me that the washer made a very loud noise prior to seizing up. Does this information indicate or imply that I have an expensive fix (say, water pump) in my near future?

HI. i have posted a procedure that will help you unlock this door and , it will also lead you to a secret tech sheet hidden inside the lower panel. This sheet will help you in the future with unpublished trouble codes and solutions as well. First, you must unplug the machine.

Next, remove the lower front kick panel. You will need a star-head driver (six points), which you can get at your Sears store. It requires a fairly small unit. I used an interchangeable handle with swappable parts to match the right size head.

The three star-head screws are located along the bottom of the kick panel. If the washer is sitting on the optional pedestal, be sure to pull the drawer out before proceeding. Then unscrew each of the screws and place in a plastic bag to avoid losing them.

The front panel is now attached by pressure to the rest of the washer. Take a crowbar or any slim tool to pry open the panel. Cover the end with a thin paper towel to avoid scratching the paint on the washer, insert the thin end low in the gap between the washer and the panel, and gently twist until the side pops off. Do both sides.

Once the panel has been removed, look to the right on the side of the inner wall of the washer. There you will find the lost manual pages intended to help the tech interpret error code and fix conditions. It also contains instructions on how to (((UNLOCK THE DOOR))). Take the manual pages out from behind the plastic envelope (they are taped and sealed, be careful not to tear them) and put them with the rest of the user manual, where they belong.

You can now see the inside of the washer. Look up in the inside where the latch for the door closes. You will see a small plastic black box. Pull the bottom end straight down. Then, open the door.

It depends on what the noise actually sounds like. if it was a grinding noise, this will lead to a frozen or , damaged pump impeller. you will need to replace the pump in this case.

Now, if it was a slight or heavy click or metal sound, this will lead to the motor/pulley assembly. i would suggest to inspect the belt to see if its still on the pulley securely and, the drum should be moved with only slight resistance. if the drum cannot be moved and, the resistance level when moved manually, is high, this will confirm electrical motor issues.

**NOTE_-((that noise can come from the door lock assembly as well. the Actuator will make a noise when defective)).

How do I unlock a whirlpool duet washer

from a previous discussion:

Wait at least three minutes after the end of the cycle before attempting to unlock your Whirlpool washer. The door will not unlock until the motor speed equals 0 and 180 seconds have elapsed since the motor control unit received the "Stop" command. If the water in the washer is warmer than 122 degrees Fahrenheit or the water level is set higher than Wool, Delicate or Hand Wash, the washer must drain before the door latch will unlock 2 Hold down the "Control Lock" button on your Whirlpool washer for three seconds at the end of the washing cycle. Listen, and when you hear the unlatching sound, the door should open.3 If your Whirlpool washer did not unlock at the end of Step 1, press and hold the "End of Cycle" button for five seconds to manually reset your washing machine.4 Unplug your Whirlpool washer and leave it unplugged for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, plug your washer back in. The washer's programming should be reset and the door should open.5 Manually unlock the door of your Whirlpool washing machine. Make sure to unplug the appliance before completing the manual unlock. Use a screwdriver to remove the metal strip, called the toe panel, at the bottom of the washing machine. Once you've removed the toe panel, reach up inside the front panel of the washer and feel around for the door latch. Locate the tear-drop shaped tab at the bottom of the door latch and pull it gently. When you hear a click, the door should open.
