Question about GE Dryers
Problem with GE electric dryer Model # DBXR463EB0WW
When you trun the start button the dryer starts but then shuts down when you let the switch return to it's at rest position. I have replaced the switch but the problem continues. Anybody out there know of this problem and hoe I can correct it.
I would believe that you would be looking at diagram location 630 a.k.a. the motor. Many people don't know it but there start switch on the panel has only one function and that is to energize the start switch on the motor.
The only drawback to this is often times manufacturers will not, for some reason or another, sell you the switch but sell you the whole motor instead.
A problem like this could either be in that start switch in the panel making poor contact, or the start switch mounted on the motor (Recently, I was actually able to take one off where it mounts on thedryer motor and open it up in halves and file burned points inside), orwith the centrifugal device in the motor itself. (As cheap and simpleas these plastic start switches on the motor appear, due to perhapsliability or something, often you can not buy that start switch andhave to buy the entire motor with it on it.)
Or your problem may conceivably have a root cause where the dryer drumis in somewhat of a bind due to a drag on it caused by something likegummed up rear roller bearings (not all dryers have these rollers, butsome do), or idler pulley bearing (that is what puts tension on thebelt ). You'd have to open up a dryer access panel (some dryers haveone small panel in rear to get at hooking up the belt, some have alower front panel that pops off), carefully stare at how the belt isfacing and wound around your shaft and idler pulley, or take a pictureor draw a picture, and then after you pull the idler pulley closer tothe motor shaft and slip off the belt, then try to freewheel spin themotor shaft, the idler pulley, and the drum, and see how it feels toyou. If anything feels like it's binding that's probably your culprit.
