Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

How do I stop it searching for updates at 0300 every morning

First step: check your unit if the panel or buttons on the panel are free from pressing and releasing when using or operating, sometimes button are stock-up that keeps your unit performing searching or scanning channel or inputs.

Second: check if you initiated a programming of any kind with channel, audio or digital devices. so do the cancellation using panel and with the help of the remote.

3rd.: check if the software or firmware of unit was need an upgrade. this upgrade usually updated by using usb flash drive. or comes when upon buying the unit. otherwise, you can still go to the website of that product  and find the exact name of the brand and model. upon click the the right model usually it will download automayical and  save in your downloads folder, it in you my documents or depending in (O.S.) Operating system you use. then copy the specific file to you usb flash drive. then at the back of your unit you can see the usb port that labelled "service" insert the usb and turn on the unit. go the option menu and check if you decide to upgrade or cancel your operation.

4th: check the source of your cable, the one that coming to your cable supplier, sometimes it is grounded so check it out or a little bit cut would enable  to have a good signal... antenna sometimes produce interference so check also that it points in a direction that suited to pick up signal. clear any hindrance on the surrounding that may affect the signal pick-up. so try to relocate.

Hope it could help you anyway..

Waiting for a valid gps signal

Not sure if this will help you or not. GPS needs a clear line of sight, tall buildings, bad spot in your car or on your dash, weather conditions and pink elephants all will interfere with the GPS signal. Keep the unit low and as far forward as you can so that it has the best chance for signal. Best position i have found is 3-4 inches above the heater vents on the dash and directly in front of you since this is the spot that is generally unobstructed by anything.
One final thing, sometimes you have to shut them down start driving then turn it on, they do sometimes lock themselves up and out of things. Don't know how or why but it does happen. See pink elephants for better results.
Hope this helps

My sirius radio sportster works sometimes and others doesn't

Buy radio shack electronic contact cleaner (in a can) and spray a small amount on the male connector from the antenna wire, and spray a small amount on the male connector in the base of the Sportster that the sportster interfaces with. Place the antenna connector onto the base unit and remove it several times and swirl it while connected. Place the sportster into and remove it from the base several times. This usually will fix the issue. Sat signals are extremely sensitive to the slightest oxidation or dirt or whaterver on that tiny antenna connection point.

We had the same problem and changed the setting to auto and the unit seems to be working properly now. Not sure if this solves the problem, but for the past 1/2 hour the unit has stopped jumping between 00 and the temp we set.

My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just says "Searching for Satellite)+

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.

Reciever Not Recording

Turn off the receiver, unplug the receiver, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and go through the setup again. This hard restart clears the memory and restarts the DVR software(clears any software glitches) This should fix this problem assuming that your satellite signal is good. Check that during the resetup. Most transponders will show between 70 to 100 signal strength. (Minimum is 70 for error free reception) Several transponders will show 0 as they are dead on the satellite, and not a receiver problem) If your satellite signal is in the 70's or less, you either live in Maine or you may need to realign the dish or something is blocking the signal like a tree or bush growing that is partially blocking the signal causing the signal to drop out(partial recordings)
