Blue color gun just went out of wack. cannot re adjust. Blue lines make horizontal hour glass. down on top and skewed up and to left on bottom

Sounds to me like a convergence problem. There are two convergence amplifiers inside the tv that keep the red and blue lined up with the green tube. This repair requires solder/desolder equipment and test equipment. What needs to be done is the parts need to be replaced on a circuit board. Most repair shops charge about 200-350 to do this repair. This set was very expensive and has many years of good life in it. If the service person says they need to replace the entire circuit board they are wasting your money. This board can be rebuilt by anyone with some experience in tv repairs. I would think that if a repair on that set doesn't exceed 450 most people would fix it. The set should stay in the home although some shops prefer to remove the circuit board to return to their shop for repair. Good luck, Russmann.

Further assistance needed

I just replied you and here once again...

Please pull front speaker grill and find focus block, fixed at corner having 6 control knobs on it.
Find Blue Screen control knob there.
Put your TV in AV mode to get dark screen and just press Display button on remote to have AV display.
Now slightly rotate control knobs counter clock wise until thin lines (retrace) disappear. Job is done and put back speaker grill, press display button again to disappear screen display.

KP51ws500 turns green and shuts itslelf off

There may be several causes but, one is that when any color gun is being over driven, the Sony shuts down the gun to protect it. Try this. Remove the front of the set by removing the two screws from each lower corner. Next remove the black panel held on by 5 or 6 screws. Now you should see a panel with 6 potentiometers on it. Turning the ones on the bottom row CCW reduces the drive. Turn the color down and if all the guns stay lit, SLOWLY turn them up until you get the color balance that you like.

I got this Sony KP-57WS500 57 in TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment.
